IF and that is big IF United sign Mata, it all makes sense to Chelsea and Maureen.

United are overpaying for Mata. Chelsea have played United, so Mata can hurt other teams and help Chelsea in title fight. And it's BS about strengthening your rivals. Cause if no Mata then United will spend spend money on other quality players sooner or later anyways, so Mourinho might see chance to offload Mata (a player that he thinks is the weak link, bad defensively) for over the odds, and buy maybe world class striker for the money

Yeah it's a smart move from Mou although it's predictable that he wasn't going to make use of a talent like Mata...Taking Chelsea's best player for the past 2 seasons and helped them win a CL title yet made surplus to needs...unreal

It's a big move for United who have, thus far, had zero creative ability in the middle of the park...They have weapons to exploit and I have no doubt Mata can be the one to do it

Why would they pay in Euros?

Yeah two English clubs would agree a fee in pounds ( probably a round figure), not 45 mn euros which turn out to be 36.834 mn pounds

He would convert it to euros as that's his and most of his followers' currency. Just like if we heard that Anji Mackalachkala had bought Samuel Eto'o from say Zenith St. Petersburgh for 100 million rubles (or whatever) he would probably convert that into euros as well as not many of his followers know how many rubles there are in a euro.

It seems very likely that the deal is going through.

Just hope Maureen had it right in not playing him due to his lack of tracking back and team ethic. Also hope he's not match fit and so doesn't do much for them this season. I'd hate to see them sneak that 4th place European slot. That would make the transfer market so much easier for them next season in the transfer market and that is something I don't think Chelsea and Maureen have really considered.

A combination of (I) lack of Champions League and also (ii) Moyes would have deterred most of the superstars from travelling to Salford for a contract.
