I don't think anyone else is stupid enough to pay £37m for him! I would seriously question those who make the decisions at our place if they spent that much money on him. He's a good little player, but compared to Silva, for example, I see no contest at all. I rate him as slightly better than Cazorla.
I agree nobody else will pay 37 but they could easily get 30 so the difference Chelsea are prepared to strengthen a rival for is 7 not 20.
All about opinions, but I can't see how Mata is worth £30m. A fringe player at best, clearly not rated by Mourinho, (not that he's the basis of valuations), and who has played some good games for Chelsea, though not a great by any means. Nasri is far better IMO, but would we be able to fetch £30m for him? I'd rate Mata between £15m and £20m. It's like Newcastle and Carroll. Only Liverpool and Dalglish in particular were crazy enough to spend what they spent on him, and in that position Newcastle must have thought all their Christmases had come at once, which is probably what Chelsea feel in getting £37m for a player they don't want.

I'd say Mata is more than just a fringe player, he's reduced to that by Mourinho currently but that isn't a true reflection of him as a footballer. I think the market is pretty high at the moment and I think they could get 30 for him certainly way more than 15-20. Comparing Nasri is difficult. He has been good for the last 6 months but had been pretty poor imo for the 18 months before that. If Nasri had been as good all last season as he has this season he could easily be worth 30 million. Let's not forget Mata was by far their best player for two full seasons until Mourinho came in and treated him like shit. And I am absolutely convinced that Mourinho had decided to do that before he even started the job. There were stories in the press when his return to Chelsea was only a rumour that if he did take the job Mata wouldn't be part of his plans which seemed ludicrous at the time but clearly Mourinho had briefed the press given that he has done everything he can to undermine Mata since the day he arrived imo.

So have they not bought him yet ?, thought it was done already.

Flat battery on the helicopter and by the time they got to Halfords for some jump leads, they were shut. They're now looking at getting on a coach, so we can expect him at Chorlton Street sometime tonight.
Is that a part of town you're particulaly familar with? ;-)

I've walked through there when I'm on my way to the village to catch your cabaret act. How you fit in to that PVC suit, I'll never know. :)

Think you're being incredibly harsh there mate! Last season he got 25 goals and 30 assists in 64 games, responsible for almost a goal a game in some form. He's only on the fringes now because of Mourinho, who I'd agree with Lancet intended to do that before he'd even walked through the door. A player who scores and creates that many goals has got to be worth 30 million of anyones money.

It takes a team of eight and an industrial-strength winch to put it on. It's enough to make your eyes water.

We sure have, but its generally involved us trying to get a player others were after, or had a complicated agency rights structure etc.

He was in Manchester yesterday, that much is clear. He seems to want the move.

If there's no medical by end of day for them I'd see a spanner being another team coming into the mix.

Sky are saying he's due in manchester TODAY.

Sky know sweet f**k all. This the same Sky that said Tevez would not sign for City until the middle of the following week, while he was outside our stadium being given a heroes welcome and plastered all over our OS. It took them 4 hours to climb down that day and report the actual news.

I'd believe fbloke more than I'd believe Sky as a source. Actually..... ;-)

Not saying your wrong mate,I was just saying what they were saying...

I wonder if we ever considered going for him...strange if we haven't as he would seem to fit the way we play, and be the type of player that the club would go for. He is the right age etc

Is it because the fee is too high?

do we have other irons in the fire so to speak? (maybe not now but in the summer)

would Chelsea not do business with us?

Its not a case of wanting every player btu this lad is absolute quality and it seems a litte weird IF we haven't considered it and made enquiries.....

Surely mata himself would consider it if we made an approach?

I reckon we are actually the reason he wants to play for the rags.

The fact we have Silva,Navas, Negredo all here means he's a load of mates in the area.

Sky sports are saying the imminent signing of mata...
Love the desperation, pisspot robson talking as if it's all done n dusted...
The fact chelsea havn't said anything at all speaks volumes....
Isn't it strange that utd havn't got a game this weekend yet they are going to dominate the headlines.
Great work yet again from their p.a department...

If by speaking volumes you mean there is no sale, then United's PR department have done anything but great work.
