If this is the official version, why are the Police being used as a taxi service? Also, why would the Police need to arrest and then de-arrest him in order to provide the said taxi service?

'We asked the police to help and they brought the person claiming to have the ball to the stadium with his mother rather than go through any legal process.'
And my hard earned money goes to pay for this?
No matter whether the story is fully accurate or not, this is what should be worried about. Clearly some lad was arrested over a ball, then de-arrested.

You are spot on, why are the police even involved ? Doesn't really matter if its the right ball or not, or if the story is being spun somewhere along the way.

1. Why are City involving the police, when it could easily have been resolved without their intervention.
2. Why did the police act at all, when it could easily have been resolved without their intervention.
3. Who at City made this decision, its a PR disaster, especially amongst us fans.

I'm just chuffed I managed to get a photo of the ball in my hands. Feels like I've touched a real piece of history, so I'm glad he got it

It's a ball, just a ball that was kicked around a pitch. The ball didn't win the game it was just booted about without any divine intervention (honest). This must be the chatsworth estate thread. Adults (I presume there are a few amongst the posters) going potty over the tale of a stolen ball in a sort of a nut-case religious relic frenzy.
What's there to get excited about? A kid took something that didn't belong to him (theft) and the police asked him to give it back. It happens all the time, kids steal and police intervene. Is there anything unusual about that or is it that stealing is suddenly a cool thing to do?

If a player scoring a hat trick can take the ball home why can't a fan?

I can understand if the lad ran onto the pitch during play to nab it, but it came to him by way of Joe Hart purposefully kicking the ball into the crowd. As with shirts being handed to fans this could be seen as a gift.

Think Mr Fletcher needs to lighten up a little on such issues. He could ask for his/FA's ball back, give the lad some exposure on TV and mcfc web site and everyone is happy.

I know the guy who caught the ball, yes caught ,like happens after a lot of games with shirts , gloves, etc. he got lucky, you saying that if he turned to you and said, here you go mate, it's the match ball, you can have it I dont want to carry it around all day, you would have refused it or handed it in? don't think so. Oh, and by the way, we are not Chatsworth estate, we are Tameside Blues. Thanks for listening!

Noticed this update on the website, that does not look like the bloke who caught the ball?

City have just tweeted that the lad met Joe Hart and gave him the ball back, picture on the twitter feed and looks just like the lad who took it!
