Match fixing confirmed (including in England)

Pige won't like this. :)

Will they ever list the matches and who exactly was involved? I really could see United being involved due to their brand power.

I wonder how clubs on the positive end of match fixing, even if they weren't fully aware of it (referees) could be punished. Could we see teams stripped of titles?
It proves nothing mate. I have never said corruption isn't with the game because we've seen it with the Italians. What I have a hard time believing, and will never believe until some hard evidence is put in front of us is the notion that refs, TV, TV bosses, ex Pro's, the pope etc etc are all in on some conspiracy to ensure United are at the top of the tree. Going one further than that I will never believe is a conspiracy to oust us or anyone else who becomes a threat to United, which is what people on here have said happens. Brown envelopes, coded messages and hundreds of thousands of people are what would be required to make United top of the tree, and that is simply not possible, not without someone having spilled the beans on it it's not. That is what I have always argued against and until hard evidence is put on a table, people arrested and titles removed from records, i'll never believe it, not just because someone has moaned about a decision that has gone their way or not ours, and 9 times out of 10 it is such incidents like that which get people going on about some United conspiracy. Should any hard evidence come up, titles removed and people arrested, I will happily hold my hands up and say 'fair play, I was wrong.

Pidge-A fair and reasoned post however didn't they also say they could never fell the twin towers?

They did that, and look at the conspiracy that little episode created! ;-)

That was quick how a PL spokesman came out to say the league is clean. Further on in the BBC report the investigator says this.

"We have uncovered an extensive criminal network."

Europol, which has been investigating for 18 months, said suspected matches included World Cup and European Championship qualifiers, two Champions League ties and "several top football matches in European leagues".

Germany and Italy confronted their issues and are slowly returning to the european powerhouses they were. Why wouldn't any of the EPL fixtures be bent? I can think of the home game with Newcastle a couple of years ago stinking more than a rotting kipper.

Too much vested power trying to protect the Premier League including SKY who've just signed a new broadcast contract that would become worthless is proven widespread.

Under Shittiwater there were rumours we were influencing a match official.

The biggest issue I had with the "brown envelopes" thread is that some posters wouldn't even begin to entertain the idea that there could be a possibility that the Premier League may be open to corruption. Fact is, if people can be bought in Italy and Germany then they can also be bought in England. History shows that people have been guilty of match-fixing here in the past so why is it not possible for it to happen again?

Could you please do me a huge favour, mate?
Just name me three posters out of the 50 odd thousand we have on the forum who have actually stated that they would never even entertain the idea of corruption in England.
As opposed to those who don't discount the possibility, but would like to see some proof first, such as myself.

People don't even have to be bought, they could be blackmailed to do it.

You shag some underage or some granny :) and you don't want public to know it.

Then some big guy knocks on your door...

Yeah - Stevie G & Waynetta did a cracking job of keeping that one quiet, didn't they?

Hehe, they've not but I'm sure there are loads of stuff many celebrities (like football players are) have done that did not hit the lights and they would not want to happen.

I'm pretty sure Giggs would score 3 own goals in CL final for the story about him shagging his brother's wife been kept secret.

There's one match that sticks out a mile regarding possible match fixing. There have always been suspicions about that match/result. And let's be honest, the Crazy Gang weren't Angels on or off the pitch.

Everton V Wimbledon in 1994.

Everton had to win to stay up. They were 0-2 down at Half-time. Look what happens in the second half. Watch Evertons third. "A little prod.. and the keeper does what?(slow motion)

Just watch the goals and the way the players keep on making mistakes, their body language, facial expressions, and their half-hearted attempts to..........

- Bruce Grobbelaar, John Fashanu and Hans Segers are alleged by a newspaper to have fixed matches.

Grobbelaar is accused of being paid to ensure Liverpool lost to Newcastle in 1993 while the allegations against Segers and Fashanu relate to a Wimbledon defeat to Manchester United in the same year.

Following two trials, the trio were acquitted after juries were unable to reach a verdict.

1999 - Four men linked to a Malaysian-based betting syndicate are jailed for three years for plotting to sabotage floodlights ahead of Charlton's match against Liverpool in February 1999.

There were also floodlight failures at West Ham v Crystal Palace and Wimbledon v Arsenal in 1997.

If i remember correctly our 3-3 draw with Soton was also part of that trial as well as the Everton match posted above?

Two different interpretations of the story. Sky only mentions CL and it being "Smashed"

Interesting comment at the end of the FT report:
“More than a legal problem, prosecutors are really facing operational problems,” Ms Iglesias said, with the main problem getting investigators to co-operate across borders. “It all depends on political will.”

Could a certain knight of the realm use his influence?

So a Premier League spokesman saying that no corruption exists is actually further proof that it does, because he said it quickly?
Erm,ok...
I could start a rumour that I have a fourteen inch penis and have Angelina Jolie tied to my bedposts, but sadly it wouldn't make it true.

Europol have confirmed what some of us have been saying for a while.
And I look forward to you calling me a smug, sarcastic twat in person on March 2nd.
I've been making a tidy sum selling tickets to punters who are queuing up to do this NJ

I did wonder just what that fucking long queue of folk on Hilton Street armed with baseball bats was all about.
