The thing is VAR was introduced supposedly for clear and obvious errors, was the ref sending him off a clear and obvious error? Just like the offside goals when they judge a players toenail to be offside, make no mistake VAR is here to manipulate results in games

The game has always been refereed to varying levels of competence.

I do believe, despite the cynical element of my comments, that like the players, modern day referees are fitter, more technically capable and much, much better than their predecessors.

However, I posted my comment not to glorify the 'hard men', rather to point out that, much as I love the modern iteration of the game (especially how we have played under Mancini, Pellegrini and Pep), I think the recent tendency to fall over and roll about after an opponent has wafted by you is contrary to the essence of footy..

Referees have always had a thankless task trying to sort out the nonsense that modern players get up to, at whatever level.. Good luck to anyone taking on the job!
Well said. A classy, cultured response. As someone who has been a referee in various sports, at various levels it has always been a bit of a dilemma to alter/adjucate the rules of the game to not compromise my officiating to the standards of my youth/playing days.

Scott Parker continues to wear his “£950 cardigan”…….Real lucky item of clothing. Wonder if it’s going to the charity shop??

VAR has been weaponised by the Premier League to manipulate games.. Nobody voted for that
