Yep, it's been against the rules since that time Thierry Henry nicked it off a goalkeeper and scored. How can anyone not know that rule?

As far as I’m aware it’s a law that hasn’t changed in my lifetime.

George Best had a famous one while playing for Northern Ireland in the 70s where he nicked the ball away from the ‘keeper while it was in the air and that was rightly penalised also.

Where the attacker blocks the keepers clearance normally results in a card so I cannot understand the posters who think the goal should have stood at all.

Law 12.
A goalkeeper is considered to be in control of the ball with the hand(s) when the ball is between the hands or between the hand and any surface (e.g. ground, own body).

Keeper is in control of the ball when between hand and ground.
Impeding the keeper while in control of the ball is a foul.

Ederson released the ball but the ball hit the palace player's outstretched foot before rolling on the ground. Therefore still in ederson's control and a foul.
Ref blew whistle as soon as happened before other palace player kicked it. Play stopped before being kicked.
Correct decision by ref.
Stopped play meant kick at goal invalid.
No goal.

Pundits as often not knowing the laws of the game they are allegedly experts in.
Keepers are ridiculously over-protected.

Here we go again from bbc regarding how many fucking touches he has in each half
Why do you see that as a negative, Lineker and Wright were just illustrating that Haaland was a bit of a throwback to an old-fashioned striker. Wright's analysis of Haaland's positional play was all positive and he even said that the number of touches wasn't that important if he was putting the ball in the net.

The linesman was yards away. For him to miss/ignore it is disgraceful. He should have informed VAR who could then look at it for a possible red (although imo, it wasn't but to simply ignore it !)

Yes forearm smash to the face a yellow at least and a free kick to us, no second goal for them.

If the rule didn’t exist, keepers would hold onto the ball for longer until the attacker is out of the way.

There’s a concurrent thread about Timewasting that people are discussing how long is too long for a keeper to keep the ball.
There was the 6-second rule some years back that was supposed to stop that but the refs hardly ever used it, it just needs some forceful instructions to the officials.

Ironically, I’m having a discussion with another blue in the Timewasting thread about this exact rule.

It‘s hard to implement consistently as no two situations are exactly the same.

If a keeper catches a corner, he’ll wait for the teams to get back in shape, unless there’s a quick counter on, meaning he’s likely to keep the ball for more than 6 seconds. And nobody would complain.

Maybe City could have a timer on the big screens every time the opposition get a goal kick!

It's hardly an insuperable problem though, it needs sorting because too many keepers are taking the piss, wasting 30 secs to a minute taking goal kicks.
