Match of the Day last night

If anyone on here had a wife who was battling cancer, how do you think you'd feel if twitter was full of people wishing her dead simply because you made a mistake at work (and that's likely what is was. Unless you believe that referees are receiving wads of cash for changing games then is it likely they would put up with the abuse and criticism they get for bad decisions just for the sake of some 'lets keep united happy' conspiracy?)

We've seen abuse of referees spill over in the past from online to phone calls, letters and personal abuse in the streets so the BBC deciding to give him a break for once is hardly the greatest evil of all time.

What has the fact that Halseys wife's got cancer got anything to do with how MOTD do a programme? Last week he gave some decisions that Liverpool fans didn't like and some morons abused him and his wife on twitter, that is a sad reflection on our society but it is more a reflection on Twitter and the way it is totally unpoliced. By your logic if MOTD then highlight 3 decisions he made, 1 penalty given, 2 not, a large section of City fans will also abuse him on the interent. Sorry, but that is unlikely to happen and it is not the BBC's job to be the social conscience of the nation. There is no point in having a presenter and 2 so called experts on a show (at great expense to the licence payer) if they are not going to look at contraversial decisions. Why not just show edited highlights of all the games without there input ? Actually that might be better but that is not the point being discussed here. They have 3 people who should be looking at incidents and also highlighting good play as well as poor play. I know I wear Blue tinted glasses but I cannot recall many instances when they presented an postive angle about City.

[That edition is a case in point. We won 1. 2. - despite a comedy penalty decision. Our defense was fine. Silva was back in form and controlled the game. We played some great football at times. We had around 70% possession.

Yet what do we get from MOTD? No discussion of the penalty in case it hurt the poor ref's feelings, some drivel about our away kit, some clips of Kompany's defending and a completely erroneous stat that possession was around 50 - 50.

And you're defending this shite?

Is your second name Lineker, by any chance?

I am not defending MOTD I said right from the start that their analysis is often poor particularly in games which are not one of the lead games that the pundits have seen.
But I do not think every incorrect refereeing decision needs scrutiny. It is often away of letting the manager off the hook.(particularly Ferguson).
In saying that the referee does not need furthur grief they are mplying it was wrong.
The rest of the analysis was predecided, not great but a fair ish assessment of Kompany this season not at his best.
MOTD generally has poor punditry but when they have not seen the match you don't expect it to be good. I wish they would not bother with it and just show more highlights, but it was not an anti CIty bit of punditry, just not great analysis.

I've just watched the analysis again & TBH I cant understand what all the fuss is about. They clearly thought the penalty was a shit decision but decided not to labour the point because as they said 'Halsey's already had a tough week' which was an admirable stance for them to take.

Kompany hasn't been at his best this season & all three pundits agreed that our defensive woes were being exacerbated by his dip in form, but that he was too good a player to let it effect him for too long.

The comment about the kit was just a bit of light-hearted banter & nothing more. IMHO I think some of us are being overly sensitive because I couldn't see what was so wrong with any of their assessment. They dealt with the most sailient points they could considering they only had 2 1/2 minutes in which to do their summary. Nowt wrong with any of it in my eyes.

So you think if Utd had gone 1-0 down to a ridiculous penalty decision, fought back to win 2-1 by playing some fantastic football & Rooney, after having a fairly poor start to the season, had suddenly hit top form, the post match talk would all be about Rio's lack of form ?

Does anyone really believe that ?

I agree in theory but are we saying that as he cannot accept some idiots tweeting abuse (and bear in mind it wasnt even on HIS twitter as he doesnt have it) after he cocked up another game that that's ok? We'll pretend it didn't happen.
When exactly CAN we start discussing his performances again? I mean, if he cocks up again next week can we talk about that one? Or is there a set period of time before we can re-start any discussions?

Seriously, If it's that bad that we are now unable to analyse the poor refereeing decision and a football anaylist programme then he simply shouldn't be reffing.

I'm not a soothe-sayer & can't predict what pundit would have said what 'IF' ManUre were in a similar position & I don't think you could accurately predict it either.

Who could have predicted that Gabby Logan & Mick MaCarthy would have been on the panel never mind 'what would have happened if ManUre...........' etc

How the fuck can MOTD justify pulling Kompany to shreds for an apparent dodgy game then barely mention Ferdinands shocking attempts at defending against the spuds??

I know who Id rather have in my team...#nobrainer

The only comparison is the now infamous United's grey shirt defeat at the Dell.

I'm surprised Bobby didn't change the shirts at halftime.

MOTD from a few months ago...............

"City were awful from start to finish. If we look at Lescotts positioning here you can see he committed himself too early and it cost City a goal. He has been an England defender in the past but on this form he will not be in Hodgsons plans again. Then there is the second goal City conceeded, appaling in every way. Hart should have come out and claimed it, again an England player ? I dont think so and as for the defenders in front of him, what were they thinking ? No I'm sorry Gary it was a terrible performance by City, Silva is a shadow of his former self, Tevez should have stayed on the golf course and Mancinis days as a City manager must surely be numbered. All in all they were very very lucky to finish joint first with Manchester Uni*ed after a fortunate goal scored by Aguero in the 94th minute."
