I don't know. But when I see ex Milan players on TV, they always say "Me Lan" eg Ruud Gullit. Balotelli also calls them "Me Lan". I'd be inclined to accept their way of pronouncing it!

As I said, you are right, most supporters refer to them it as Me•lan (but with less of a pause).
