Matchday Parking

Yep nailed me pal, I didn’t read it carefully enough. So the bad news is where I park now is on the list but the good news is that literally only 100 yds away there are streets that aren’t.

That said, if this gains any traction it would seem to make sense from their point of view to make the whole area between Bradford Rd and Oldham Rd an exclusion zone.

What’s your gut feeling - is it just a matter of time before these restrictions are implemented ?
I think they will (drivers are the new smokers) and it may be implemented season after next. It seems the excuse is the new arena

@chesterbells I looked at Holmes Chapel to Piccadilly and the train takes 45 minutes, so by the time I've driven to Holmes Chapel I may as well get on the train at greenbank

The logistics of getting to the game and back will stop me from attending

We usually park on wolverton street and Manchester Breakdown service over the past 2 games have decided to start blocking the road off illegally. Been parking there 10 years! Rang them up and asked them why and they said for our vehicles safety and if we try park there again they will smash a truck in to it. Advised it's a public road and they cant just block it off. See what happens tonight. Also a guy down there charges people a fiver to again park on a public road. Please stop giving him money to park there if you do

Thanks for the heads up Dickie. Where I currently park fortunately isn’t on that list but obviously as people who park on the listed streets look for space elsewhere it becomes more difficult for everyone to find a spot.

How the fuck do they expect people to get to the ground if they implement a miles wide exclusion zone ? There are only a finite number of businesses with enough space to accommodate match day parking. Public transport seems to be wholly inadequate judging by the threads on here. Huge problems are incoming.

I guarantee you some prick at the council will have a plan for most supporters to arrive on foot or by bicycle by the year 2030 or some other such nonsense.
You can submit your views on the parking scheme even if you don't live in the area - I did last night on the website. What winds me up about it is that it drags in streets fans park on which are not residential at all. I can understand not wanting people to clog up estates and terraced streets in Ancoats, Beswick, Miles Platting but to drag in the lanes around Clayton Vale, Phillips Park almost up to Newton Heath border etc is opportunism, especially as matchday trams aren't the best. I gather residents in Clayton aren't that keen and can understand why, they've done a similar thing where my folks live in Withington and it's a nightmare if you have visitors.

Anyone know who the complete sharks are who run the big car park on Philips Park Rd behind the athletics stadium. Of course both gates will be open, of course you won't get blocked in blah blah blah. Wankers.

Probably means a half mile further walk until those streets get sucked in, however visitor passes will be at a premium.

I didn’t notice the sign had changed also just received one from the derby day and presume one will be coming for the Sporting Lisbon game also. I don’t think they can enforce the tickets.

. . . . . . . .

This is my main issue too! Forty mins in the car, anything up to an hour and a half when public transport meets its published timetable. The second issue is getting to the ground 'early'. I used to set off two hours before kick off - pie, Bovril, read the proggy, watch the City Square stuff, but the 'new' car park arrangements have me setting off three hours before kick off. Yer soon get fed up of a ninety+ min game of football taking six hours out of a day.

Any idea why that closed? I remember asking a while ago and I don’t think people were too sure - shame as used to park there for years
I parked there from the time we first moved into the Etihad. The company who own it now make more money from the lorries in there and the owner is now looking to sell it for housing.

A real shame - still not found a great consistent spot since, took it for granted all those years!

A bit of a pain sometimes to get away from but certainly better than the present situation. Has been made worse with losing the majority of the official car park also. Imagine when the new arena is completed. Hardly bears thinking about. The public transport system will really need ramping up.

Just read the proposals on the MEN website and didn't realise until now that the restrictions will also include introducing a 90 minute time limit on the non-residential streets around the industrial estates along briscoe lane, lord north st etc!

Absolute joke, nothing to do with residents parking just a money spinner for this anti-car council.

Obviously them clowns have never tried getting to the ground on a match day using public transport. Are they expecting 50,000 fans to have to descend on Manchester City centre via various routes and methods each match day so that they can all then walk to the ground or are they expecting everyone to squeeze into a couple of metrolink carriages and a handful of buses?

So it will have to be public transport into Manchester City centre, which is actually travelling in completely the wrong direction for anyone coming from many parts of Manchester, followed by a 2mile walk to the Etihad and back?

I'm not even sure how the council make money out of it apart from parking fines. It will probably just encourage more of those dodgy car parks and not really bring down the number of people driving to the game. Not much of an advert that for the Arena, a car park shoved behind a scrap yard with a dark, uninviting walk to the campus. The reason so many drive already is because on public transport they are forced through the city centre which adds a lot of time to some journeys and when they close the Ashton tram line for 2 years it could be chaos.

It will mean more people park on residential streets outside the 1 mile zone and others pack in going. Will end up having to walk from Harpurhey when they extend it further as residents are affected from displacement.

I just hope the club have ideas about how to sell this arena with regard to how people actually get there. Having to walk a mile through dark streets doesn't sound like a plan and football supporters are one thing, but people attending a concert are going to be dressed up. I just have this horrible feeling they're not going to bother and night games especially are going to be impossible to reach on time.

I have an option of avoiding the City centre, but it involves umpteen town centres. The metro from Rochdale to Milnrow, Shaw, Oldham and then get off at Monsall/Newton Heath and then a walk. It's bollocks! Into Manchester and then out of Manchester. As I said, it's bollocks. Oh, and let's not forget the bus ride into Rochdale! The time we played the Dippers in the league cup I had to go on pt 'cos I couldn't drive. 1800 from LBoro was cancelled, rushed to get the bus to Rochdale, then the 17 into Manchester, stopping at every fuckin' lamp-post, got the last special out of Piccadilly, and when we arrived at The Etihad the driver would't open the doors until he was at an 'authorised' bus stop. I thought some lads were gonna lynch him! I missed kick off, missed my pie 'n Bovril. As the crow flew it had eleven miles to cover. From seat in our lounge to my seat among the FOCs in CBL3 the best part of three hours. Threes hours for eleven fuckin' miles!

You could have walked it quicker.

I would have cycled it, but yer never know many Rags are off to see their probation officer down the Ashton Road and need to nick a bike to be on time.
I am 226 miles away from the Etihad so don't have a great deal of options. I can do it, with a short stop at Tebay, in 3 1/2 hours. Getting away after the game is slightly more troublesome ;-)
