Matt Le Tissier

He got what he wanted and he’s STILL fucking whining about it. ****’s gone bananas. Nobody even wears masks now we have jabs.
Not entirely sure why you're saying he's 'gone bananas'... as far as I can see all he's doing is slightly smugly engaging in a bit of "I told you so" regarding the original unnecessary over reaction to the pandemic and the (now obvious to everyone else) consequences of that reaction.

He is a decent broke, met him and his family once at Girona airport flying to Bournemouth for the Southampton game where we got a 100 points.

Talked more about the size of the airport more than football

Sad he aired a point a view that many did not agree wirh.

Met Peter Sutcliffe at Knutsford Services once. Decent bloke. Talked about his big truck and the Wimpy restaurant. Didn’t mention murdering prostitutes once strangely.

The bananas thing is the fact he's balls deep in conspiracy theory bullshit. Yes, a lot of people did overreact but this is a man who thinks COVID isn't real and/or a government plot. I know it's real - I've had it. It was shit. And he's gone from being a COVID denier to claiming war crimes in Ukraine never happened. He never gave a shit about politics before other than posting the odd 'Brexit good' statement. He never even voted when he was a player. And it's kind of worrying how many Holocaust deniers and David Icke supporters follow him these days.

Also, I'm someone whose mental health actually was affected by COVID. I dread another lockdown because even for someone who doesn't go out much, the loneliness was incomparable. I'm amazed I got through it in one piece. And I can tell you now that Le Tissier does not give a gnat's bollock about people like me and never will.

I'd also like to point out that I'm Jewish and conspiracy theories nearly always go back to us, or involve us in some way. And seeing a player I loved watching as a kid getting into that world is...not pleasant. At least it's not Anders Limpar, I guess.

Perhaps he has demonstrated to be "balls deep in conspiracy bullshit" elsewhere, but all I'm seeing in that clip is him confirming a number of facts...

-It was known from a very early stage that Covid is an entirely benign if somewhat unpleasant illness for 99% of the population.
-The government did have a well established pandemic plan in place which for some reason it chose to completely disregard.
-The long term impact of the response to Covid, in regards to the economy and public health, is far more serious, wide ranging and long lasting than any damage that Covid did or didn't cause.
-Sunak has completely refused to acknowledge the key role he played in causing the now all too evident damage to the economy and public health.

I'm sorry to hear your mental health was effected but I very much doubt it was covid that caused it, it was more likely the entirely disproportionate and largely unjustified over reaction, the scare mongering and the fear instilling authoritarianism that was more likely the cause of your mental health problems.
