MCFC buy J league club Yokohama Marinos

Still scratching my head as to how these other clubs help us? FFP now says we can't sell off stuff between the clubs for FFP income. We can't take much profit from the other clubs surely as they need it to develop. Is the main thing to raise awareness of the 'City brand' in which we'd be the main club so fans of these other clubs will take an interest in us as their European club and buy our merchandise?

Helps us not look like those other guys who just try to cherry pick the biggest Japanese star(stock starting to fade & Okazaki just broke his Bundesliga record), and use him as a money grab to sell shirts. This is another long term deal with a club of similar profile. They've won everything domestically, winning the FA Cup equivalent last year and also have won the equivalent of CL. Great club with a world famous stadium and Nakamura from Celtic fame is their club captain.

Incidentally, apologies for the slight hijack but not worth starting a new thread for this - but @statcity has just tweeted that South Africa will be next. And I did see comments on Twitter recently to the effect that Orlando Pirates from Soweto have some advertising campaign with cerrtain slogans and the like that are rather similar to NYCFC's.

Anyway, as you were.

Every season we buy a club, isn't that awesme, what it also is doing is creating a new fan base in all these countries
Brilliant

I've heard talk of City Academies in India and SE Asia

If thats the reason we dont do very well i might add. not if melbourne hearts suporters can have their say.
This is to build a brand nothing els. Its important all clubs under CFG have their own identities.

20% stake is decent ownership given that their majority holder is afterall Nissan, who is the father of the club.

And in terns of what we gain. We actually gain alot definitely market wise. Instead of taking leverage of a one City franchise market, like what most top clubs if not all go about, we look at a City market and other community markets. This way we are not targetting mainly gloryhunters by consumerism, but actually promoting foreign supporters to support their community teams. They will attend matches and hold season tickets and be local support. Not switching on ESPN/Starsports and stop supporting the moment their glory team disappear to mid table mediocrity. We are promoting community support while at the same time using that leverage to promote the City brand and what it does. This way, our support market will never be saturated. Enter revenue.

At least I think that is some part of it.

This is absolutely mental. In summers gone by I've watched SSN waiting to see if we might sign a player in the summer transfer window and when we did wondering who the fuck he was. Now we're buying football clubs left right and centre.

Bloody love this sort of thing, very exciting. Setting up our way of playing and style of football in Japan is an excllent thing to do, much better than buying a token asian player. If done properly then it could be huge for Japanese football, they already play a very technicaly style as it is. World domination is coming along nicely!

Expect a new raft of ffp rules governing ownership/stakeholdings in non-eu football clubs.
