Big news to follow
Only if you can confirm Yaya's cake was a victorian sponge

City have a stake, dont own them and will probably use it as a feeder club for Japanese talent.

The title of this thread is wrong - City have bought a stake.

UEFA take £8 million, I wonder what this deal is worth? My bet, much more than £8m...
When you say "this deal" I assume we've paid them. But no doubt there will be income from the sale of IP rights even though it won't be included for FFP purposes.

According to UEFA, we've agreed that "revenues from the sale of assets within their group structure will not be included in future break-even calculations". Is it possible that this has been set up so that it doesn't count as a "sale of assets within [MCFC's] group structure?

In any event, if it is excluded for future FFP purposes, we could probably work it so that any payment from the Japanese club is fairly small but we recoup cash by way of a sponsorship from Nissan instead.

Great post, and exactly along the line of what I was thinking. The "partnership" could be along the lines of CFG putting cash / expertise into Yokohama, and in turn Nissan sponsoring MCFC for millions. Importantly, UEFA have no right to see CFG's accounts. They have no rights to see Yokohama's accounts, but the sponsorship of Nissan in to MCFC will show up as revenue for FFP purposes. All totally legal and above board.

Still scratching my head as to how these other clubs help us? FFP now says we can't sell off stuff between the clubs for FFP income. We can't take much profit from the other clubs surely as they need it to develop. Is the main thing to raise awareness of the 'City brand' in which we'd be the main club so fans of these other clubs will take an interest in us as their European club and buy our merchandise?

Well, I am no financial expert, but I see us owning just 20% as important here. UEFA can't claim we're selling stuff to ourselves like with New York and Melbourne, because Yokohama is still majority owned by Nissan (a major brand).

The other benefit is on the last line of the press release, where it says City and Nissan will explore more global joint opportunities in the coming months... hinting at a mega commercial deal.

Really so helping to develop talent in places like US, Japan and Australia wont help us! Enabling our youth players to develop in other competitive leagues but playing the City way wont help us! Enabling our scouts to develop local ties with other clubs and leagues around the world wont help us!

City have not invested in these clubs to comply with FFP but for footballing reasons hope that helps!!!

I think we'll still be pretty much in charge of most of the important aspects, you don't partner with CFG to argue with them, so I would still consider it our club.

Maybe the point of UEFA not able to claim about the IP has merit, that would be interesting.
