so what english atmospheres are crap, weve tried the way of just letting the atmosphere creating itself that doesnt work, people say they can sing when they want- no one sings, against teams like bayern it was shit, why not try something different look at what the poznan did. If the english way of atmospheres is to sit in silence and only sing when were winning then whats the point of even going to cheer on your team .
Not slating the atmosphere, i'm explaining the difference in cultures. The Son Moix, Majorca's ground, well one of the sides of their ground has one guy who is continuously with his back to the pitch, shouting the chants he wants the fans in that part of the stadium to sing. On the opposite side there is another guy doing the same thing. Tiny little ground that, holds about 20k i'd say, perhaps less, but fuck me it was impressive to see. I spent a lot of the game watching him perched ontop of a little metal railing, getting the crowd to sing chants of his choice. It works there, and the other grounds in Spain, for example, because that has been in the culture of the Spanish football fan for decades and decades, it's what they do as football fans. Over here it is completely different, note the word different, not 'bad'. It's like that ****-faced band that follows England. I sat near them once and all I kept on thinking was 'you all look like a bunch of dry, mangled fanny's', they were doing my fucking head in, because it's not what supporters do in England, it just isn't.
Maybe some people are better at handling change than you are.
Or maybe i'm just showing that on the continent it works, whereas here it just doesn't. I'm no expert, but i'm pretty sure that Italian fans and Spanish fans don't meet in the equivalent of a Wetherspoons hours before the match to get pissed, then go for a ruby after the game. That's because that isn't in their culture to do so, whereas that is exactly what the match is about over here, maybe not for everyone but you get my jist i'm sure. I have never seen a guy with a megaphone at Villa, for a random example, with his back to the crowd, thousands of fans copying his every chant, and the simple reason for that is it is not what fans of English clubs do, we're too reserved for that. Ultras belong on the continent.

So you sing on your own then? When your in a crowd and everyones singing blue moon you do the opposite? All songs start the same with 1 or a few people starting it off.

I sing on my own all the time. In the car, pub, ground, kitchen table, everywhere.

With 'bluemoon' i do the actions as well. Spontaneity is what i'm on about. I realise that every song has a higgs boson but they take on a life of their own and grow depending on the situation.

Don't these 'ultras' have songmasters who direct the crowd using loud hailers and that.

You don't have to join them. Just see them as a stimulus for the rest of the crowd and others can decide whether they want to join in or sit nearby etc

I prefer to be stimulated by the on-field action, scoreline, or opposition fans.

Trying to generate an atmosphere using gimmicks is not only futile, but a bit embarassing as well. Next thing you know they'll be piping crowd noise throught the PA.....

Perhaps you should look around you more, especially at home games, you'll find your stereotype of 'what the match is about over here' is out of date as far as the majority of fans at The Etihad go.

There's only one way to find out if it will work here and that's to try it out and really get behind it. Other british clubs have done this successfully.

Napoli fans probably meet for a coffee and get into the ground about an hour before to get the atmosphere going.

Our lot meet at the pub and throw as much lager down their necks as they can and probably get into their seats at 2.58pm

So the singer who has been in the pub most of the morning has now been replaced with a passionate, loud as fuck guy with a megaphone who a massive percentage of that stand copy the every word of? I don't go to games at the minute, but i'm willing to say that no, he hasn't. The bottom line is someone trying to replicate what real Ultra groups on the continent do is going to look rather silly, because people just don't think that way over here, the same way as Miguel and Pedro trying to get a group of fans together to go on the piss all morning, loading up on pies and chips before watching Sevilla is never going to catch on.

That won't happen, ultras about making the noise for themselves.

Did you think aris and Napoli fans were embarrassing and gimmicky?

You can choose to be stimulated by away fans and the match but don't say others who are stimulated by their own bloody fans are embarrassing. I personally thing the 'only sing when we're winning' fans are more embarrassing.

Read the whole topic. How can you say people aren't beginning to feel that way over here?
