MCFC V NY Red Bulls Tonight.

scum got beat

but i dont see them going in a strop over a pre season friendly. some people on here are dumb.

Not dumb....just seems a bit pointless going all that way so soon after the world cup resulting in playing a second rate side and losing. Surely by not playing well and losing it will do our name/image/brand detrimental damage in the US market?

Just got back from the game - haven't read any of this thread. It was clearly nothing more than a slightly intense training game with the team clearly following orders on how to play- no-one was really getting stuck in and some of the passing in triangles and sideways was often done very obviously at the expense of more direct play. Most of the squad expended more energy in the pre-match games of 'keep away' than they did during the match.

I watch NYRB on the tv most weeks. Just like the US national team, they are well-organised, fit and direct. Nothing spectacular, but more than a match for any team who are not trying that hard.

Never nice to lose, but I can assure you no-one at MCFC is losing any sleep over this.

There well angry on red cafe, smallings getting some shit for hoofing the ball everytime he got it,well funny!

I nearly turned off when I saw the starting line-up - not a City team at all but is was really good to see some of the younger players up close.

Ireland clearly looked uninterested and is Jo being played as an advertisement?

Hopefully Thursday will be a better team - is anyone else just a touch concerned that the core of our team haven't even seen each other yet never mind played a game?

These games serve a useful purpose because it demonstrates to the hierarchy the problems that need addressing.

The simple facts are, if anyone believes that we don't need another centre half then they are a fool and if anyone believes that Wayne Bridge is good enough for where want to be, then they are beyond foolish.

The manager will have seen what I saw tonight. The vast majority of those players out there are not good enough. When it comes to picking the 25, the job is being made that much easier.

The most pressing obvious was that, when Lescott and Toure came on, two defenders that threaten to be a regular partnership, they were a bloody embarrassment. If we don't sign a commanding leader to replace one of these, then we are not going to make the top four. For me, if the manager does not spot this then the season is going to end in disaster.

Didnt stay up for all the game, though on at a reasonable time, i had to get up at 4am for work. However the 1st 20 minutes i watched and Bridge was simply awful. Does the guy ever stop any crosses come in? Out of position alot and ball was played behind him far too easily for the winger to get onto inc the 1st goal. Not top 6 standards by any means, a poor one footed player who offers nothing at either end of the pitch

There's no doubt that getting beaten of yanks, even in these daft friendlies, is pretty embarrassing. But it's very early days in our pre-season yet and we had a very young team out there so it's good to see them get a decent bit of experience for themselves. Everyone's still looking pretty rusty at the moment and although I wanted us to win you just have to be happy that we came through without any injuries

I thought Alex Nimley was excellent and showed he's got bags of natural talent that we can hopefully get the best out of in the coming years. He tired as the game went on which was partly why he missed that sitter I thought and anyone who gives him stick for the miss doesn't know what they're talking about. It's not that he isn't good enough to slot it away from 1 yard, it was just a lapse in concentration which I felt was down to a tired mind. He'll slot ones like that away in future and with him being a young lad you should be encouraged that he actually got into a very good position to miss it, lesser players would have been stood at the edge of the box or further away and not even have had the chance at all. He'll slot those away in future so it's just good to see him taking up good positions at the moment

Top marks to Johnson, a joy to watch

Disappointments for me were Ben Mee who was far too quick to kick it back to Hart all too often and should have covered his area for their first, Stevie Ireland who I feel should be stamping his authority on games like those no matter where he plays in the midfield, Wayne Bridge who was absolutely abysmal and the substitution of Jo who's confidence was clearly boosted by the goal and I'd liked to have seen him stay on as he was starting to enjoy his game. Like I said though everyone's a bit rusty at the mo so just glad to see everyone come through without any injuries
