Media bias against City

I don't know if the Officials were afraid to give it or just corrupt? Madley and his linesman were both looking directly at it without obstruction. I have not seen a clearer penalty since Aguero was blatantly felled and booked for diving.

Channel 5's Pat Nevin could clearly see it was a penalty but couldn't bring himself to admit it. He said something like "that was a big call...the officials' have got most of the big calls right tonight."

Apart from MP mentioning it post match, most of the media has just dismissed it. No mention in the Goal.com match report. No questions from Channel 5 to Martinez or comments by Nevin, in a lengthy post match interview. BBC's Danny Mills and Sky's Moyes both implied it was a fair decision!
Only Sky's Peter Beagrie had the honesty to admit it was a clear penalty.

(My son said his Everton and United supporting school friends even admitted it was a blatant penalty.)

Not everyone.
Mark Ogden in the Indie was clear that it was a penalty and that Lukaku was interfering. I assume the world is about to end.

Moyes isn't going to admit anything ever, and I agree Channel 5 deliberately avoided the issue with Martinez. Nevin was just weaselly.

The Referee's Union closing ranks I see. ;-)

The original offence was in the first half and he finally gave the free kick sometime in the second.

ha!
i'll call it when it's a bad decision (how was that not a pen on wednesday!?) but when i feel it's just sour grapes and fans moaning it gets me angry!

i dont actually recall any incident like that in the west ham game...now jon moss v liverpool and extended advantage is another matter!

Won't be long before we kick off and then Moss gives a free kick which he carried over from the reverse fixture!

He's moved to the Indie.
And the report is genuinely surprising.

Why ? perhaps his old paper told him to write biased anti city shite and his new mob allow him to report the match honestly. It is an excellent summary of the match and it covers all the key incidents. If he has changed his style of reporting you do have to ask why.

One of my uncles use to work with Madley at one of the refereeing training facilities he's not a red I know that for sure but he doesn't mind having a bet now and then. Twat probably had something on the toffees.

Ogden is a rag, pure and simple. He can no more bring himself to write well of us than we could of the rags. No need to look for deep conspiracies or dictates from editorial level here. You'd think as a professional journalist he'd have the objectivity to write well of us when the occasion deserves so but apparently not. So when Ogden says it was a penalty what he means is 'it's a stonewall'.

Spoke to him in 2014, nice guy but when I got philosophical about our chances of winning the league that year his reply was " that's what I love about you City fans". Paul Lake would be an ideal summariser, intelligent, insightful, knowledgeable but pro City.

Just the thing editors and programme commissioners need to know to go looking elsewhere. Hope Paul is busy and not sitting by the telephone. He is a very likeable character apart from the City connection, articulate, knowledgeable but blue!!

True, but he's been as per the Torygraph so far at the Indie, and the Indie does employ the laughable Herbert.

However, as you say, it may be that there's a new policy for 2016. The report yesterday was one of the more accurate reports of any game I've seen.

Or maybe Oggie just loathes Everton more!

This thread is about media bias against City. it used to be called the Agenda thread or similar. I am firmly of the belief that the media do report negatively on City and I fully support the reasons given on here as to why it is done, advertising - click bait for 900 million rag fans or whatever, BUT, when someone writes an article that is not biased for City nor biased against them, it is purely a summary of the match which covers all the important points you cannot slag the fellah off.

If, as I accept he has been very anti City n his previous life, I am wondering what has caused the change.

Our good friend Stephen Howards yet again put the boot in on City in the daily comic. Saying Pepe is taking easy way out coming to City and should avoid the gravy train and instead join Arsenal. Talk about booting someone before they've even been given the fucking job in the first place!! This guy despises our club for reasons unbeknown, but what I do know is, if I ever come across this horrible maggot ****, I will kick the shit out of him!! In a nice way of course.

It wouldn't matter about a red connection - he's just dire. He just is, like too many referees that stump up to our games, incapable of officiating what happens on the pitch and deliberating an outcome that matches what is written down in the Laws of the Game.

I think we, as fans, have a right to know why he didn't give the most blatant and obvious trip you'll ever see on a football pitch. They should be made to explain why decisions are and are not given. No witch-hunt - just an explanation why! One question - Why, Mr. Madeley did you not award a penalty for the blatant trip on Navas?

Possible reasons: he's a shithouse, shitehawk, RagDipperArse'ole, his team has now to compete with a very wealthy club, we are going upwards inexorably, he's a cnut, he has a very well-developed jealous streak, his most endearing characteristic is envy, he wanted a meat pie at halftime and got served a vol-au-vent!

Another who's had a change in stance.
He's written terribly nice things in the past, like this one.

His report on the Indie was his usual crap and many people criticised it, both his old 'fans' from the DT and In die readers. I like to think that he was told to tone it down, perhaps as the Indie already have the right Herbert?

How can he hate Everton more?

Don't forget, that's where The Chosen One came from after the GPC retired! (erm, perhaps he DOES have a valid reason, after all)

I know it's pathetic, perhaps me, but the Daily Fail has once again gone out of it's way to highlight City, and almost airbrush *United* out of the headline.

Overtaking *Manchester City* and United.

Utd would have been even less obvious.

ooops messed that up...........

Before anyone defends the article saying 'why put Manchester City and then Manchester Un*ted, they just put Manchester once' The article states Uniteds wage bill was higher than ours so why not put them first ?
