This is so true.Had to laugh (again) at the bbc:
Community Shield: Arsenal 'make statement' with victory over Manchester City
Statement win lol. You would think we were playing a lower league team, not one who finished 2nd and have spent over 600 million in a few years.
A team who thanks to the cup finals we played are a few weeks ahead of us in fitness, a team who were only playing by default as they won nothing to get to this game, a team who needed a flucky deflected shot deep into additional added time to score and who until we hugely tired from the 80th minute could hardly get the ball off us
Personally I was pleasantly surprised by how well we played yesterday. I thought we were much much better than them for most of the game.
We're obviously a bit short of fitness (and quite right too given that our season went on weeks after everyone else apart from West Ham were on the beach).
If we'd been played off the pitch by Arsenal I'd be concerned but that clearly didn't happen. Kev came on for 20 minutes 3 stone overweight and ran the game. The guy is 32 years old and clearly needed the rest after last season so no problem at all as far as I'm concerned. Totally different than Kalvin Phillips turning up fat mid season after an injury.
Pep himself looks like he's enjoyed his time off and I'm glad to see it.
The one thing I've been worried about for this season is the physical and mental exhaustion that must be a factor. You could see we were running on fumes at the end of last season...
We look pretty well rested and we looked a lot better than last season when we lost the CS to Leicester.
All in all a good runout, Kovatic looks an excellent signing. He's not gundo but he definite is someone that can support Rodders and bring midfeild control if and when needed. Cole Palmer looks like he can fill the right side impact role that Mahrez has been so good at for a few years. Its a good way for him to find his way into a bigger role in the future.
One thing that did boil my piss a bit was the constant going to ground and squealing by the Arsenal players. This was something they did a lot last year. Its embarrassing. This is clearly an Arteta thing, in which case I'm glad he removed himself from the succession plan by going there.
As for Arsenal, Rice looked compact and decent but isn't a massive upgrade on what they had. Their keepr is clearly a good shot stopper but looks like he's living on his nerves a bit like the Everton fella.
The full back they got, Timber looks decent. Glad Utd or the scousers din't get him.
I think they will be a bit better this season but not that much.
If we play to our potential we'll be better than them again.
