Haaland was supposedly only staying with us for 18 months before joining Madrid according to the media.
They think their bullshit appeases the red shirts, yet even they know they write shit about us
Madrid, and the Spanish media that does their bidding, are old pros at planting “fishing expedition” stories about all of the best players in the world coming to them, especially Spanish players.

To be honest, they really are one of the most attractive clubs in the world and any player would be flattered to be courted by them.

However, the manner in which they “tap up” players is a disgrace. They constantly seek to entice players by showing interest, and then expect players to angle for a move. Then, they seek to get the players on the cheap…as they did with Mbappe!

Worst kept secret in the world was announce you’re interested when the player has 18 mos to 2 yrs left on his contract. Dangle the carrot with only a year to go and seek to get them on the cheap, with the threat that they’ll leave for nothing in 12 mos. Thereafter, a player just runs down his contract, knowing he will now be able to translate a good portion of any “non-transfer fee” into a signing bonus and fat contract.

It’s so transparent as to be ridiculous, yet they get away with it repeatedly.

Here’s hoping Rodri is settled and happy enough to sign a long term extension and eschew any untoward advances. The problem, of course, is that as he grows older, the PL becomes such a slog, whereas in Madrid he has sunshine, less games, less travel for Spain, and the ability to relax (or even be rested) in at least half the La Liga games they play!

If we can keep him until 32, it’ll be quite the achievement.

Didn't City send bailiffs to Ipswich where Joe was manager to recover the compensation he was ordered to pay back after City won the appeal?
Caused a lot of bad feeling from Joe towards the club IIRC
If correct, the club should have waived those costs. Fucking small time. He got us back to back promotions and he was sore at being sacked. The club should have risen above it.

Imagine how little self respect you need to have to do that for a living. Make shit up for publication. Literally sitting down and making something up for people to read. What a way to earn a living. Sub human scum.

Mostly agree, but the one flaw in that argument is that Madrid bid €220m for Mbappe which was rejected by PSG. One could argue that it was Mbappe that ran down his contract.
I hope Rodri continues to believe he is best placed at City.

Spanish and Catalan tactic.

leak stories from their media friends (Marca, Mundo etc) about players, any player that is not exclusively ours but from any club, hope said player may have their head turned, the majority of the time it comes to fuck all.

Sadly many fans believe it both from madrid and barca and as has been seen on here for 4 years with berny being meentioned annually some numpties in our transfer forum ;-)

If it's true I agree.
I'm not sure if it's true as I'm approaching FOC status and it was nearly 20 years ago but IIRC his contract said he would be due 6 months salary as severance as a non EPL club but 12 months severance if dismissed if we were a top flight club.
In the big scheme of things it was around £200 or £300k.
He was dismissed in 2001 just after relegation and the club paid him 6 months salary, Joe went to court and won and the club were ordered to cough up an extra 6 months salary before the club won an appeal and Joe had to pay the 6 months salary back.
It dragged on for a while, and I'm pretty sure the club sent in the bailiffs who turned up at the Ipswich training ground.
Maybe the last part is bollock as it was a long time ago but the part about the severance and both parties going to court is true.
