Most mines were uneconomic, loss making, overmanned and under productive.

Like the railways, motor manufacturing and town halls they were infested by militant union left wingers/ communists....Remember Liverpool ??

The Union leaders didn't give a fuck about good men doing their best, they wanted control without accountability.

Workforces & families were sacrificed by Scargill, Robinson etc on the alter of hopeless ideology whilst they lived in comfort at union's expense.

Scargill should've been sent to the tower !!
Sure there is a politics forum for this stuff, pretty please

Not quite media as such, but these cunts are at it again…
I’ve not brought a pizza from them since the 115 free pizzas for united fans and never will again.

2 of their last 5 tweets have been about City too. Think their PR department needs sacking as all they post about is football.

Fair play to them, PR department nailing their colours to the mast.

Completely alienate a fanbase (so less consumers), and that will only lesson when they annoy someone else.

Flawless business plan.........

That’s one way of looking at it…… but that’s what was printed in all the newspapers.
Because in many cases in several nationalised industries it was often true.

Good men, families and communities sacrificed by ideological vandalism including many close to where I live in South West Yorkshire.

Scargill, who lives very, very comfortably on his union pension,is detested by many who have seen the light !!

Maybe compare ideological vandalism with corporate greed in ither industries & ask why were those bailed out or subsidised others weren’t. If the uk had a sovereign wealth fund like Norway it wouldn’t be an issue but it hasn’t.

City sign 10 year £250 million deal with Pizza Hut...

Their pizza's are fucking shite anyway.

"It's grade one youth development. It is also a very useful revenue stream for one of the few clubs who do not need to stress about meeting the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules."

The narrative suits when it suits.

So instead of keeping jobs in local communities and the money from those jobs being spent in those communities. Even tax collected by her majesty’s revenue. Instead unemployment benefit paid out to people who wanted to work.

Coal pouring in from Poland and Venezuela where kids were used in the mines.

Tell me how economical it is to close down mining communities and paying out on social benefits while importing coal and exporting money to Poland and Venezula for the coal.

I know for a fact pits were made to keep running old unprofitable seams so those pits could be shut because they were making a loss. Some of those pit had machine at the face of new seams the as soon as they were switched on would have put those pots straight into profitability.

It was a political decision not a financial decision of the Tories and that twat Thatcher.
There's quite some irony that any attempt to open any new mine or any other source of energy for that matter is met with resistance from nimbyanism. Housing estates have been built on cleared land, protests arise from anti-windfarm protesters and of course there is the Stop Oil lot who would wipe out traffic if they could. And don't forget Scruffy Jim and his fracking. It's a strange world we live in now.

Nationalised industries were subsidised and provided with huge government grants /soft loans ....and remained uneconomic due to overstaffing, inefficiency and low productivity along with long and destructive political strikes !!

The money spent on over staffing circulated in the economy. The dividends paid to hedge funds is used to buy up more assets & create a divide.
