No point in arguing something we agree on. I also think the CIES index is dubious but that’s only because it firmly sits in the confines of my profession so I am bit more interested in the methodology than most.

That said, I do think there is an agenda (based on many causes, not just ‘the UK media hates us’, mind) and it is more and more difficult to argue against that as time passes and evidence presents itself. And that’s from someone that places a large premium on objectivity and qualitative/quantitative analysis (again, it is my profession).

Fair play to you Sebastian. Been a few years since I tested a null hypothesis or undertook a Spearman rho/Mann-whitney test?

I would be interested to know how the CIES measures players performance accurately, particularly a player like Otamendi who has relatively little to do compared to other centre halfs and so in ‘traditional’ measures like tackles/blocks would undoubtedly compare unfavourably.

Give you a sense of my mindset with nearly everything: I have this posted on the monitor on my desk at work and at home (I split time these days, allowing me to be on here more often). ;-)

Regarding CIES’s methodology, you can read a primer here (they won’t release the full white paper unless you purchase their products):

Its hardly not been mentioned and our record breaking achievements and performances have been documented all season. Lifting the league, breaking the goal record etc have all been written about over the last couple of weeks but like anything it cannot last forever.

I actually think if anyone should be peeved it should be Wenger as him leaving after 22 years should draw a bit more attention. Been a collosus of english football for such a long period
Our 100 points and the sensational manner in which it was achieved only occurred yesterday and so has not been "documented all season" as your post suggests.
In fact frank it has hardly been documented at all in today's media whereas Mo Salah's scoring record has.
Funny that isn't it?

@franksinatra
@Didsbury Dave
Where are u?
Let's be 'avin u!
We need to hear u on the non existent media coverage the Centurions are getting compared to our rivals who are making all the headlines.
The media have been fawning all over City and Pep all season, bar a tiny percentage of morons. We’ve never had so much positive press. It irritates the fans of other clubs how eulogised we are with the “beautiful football” and “footballing revolution ” and “best premier team ever?” comparisons .

Sky have a special on next Monday the 21st titled the centurions,also a special on the goals we scored this season and also aguero the 100 goal club all on that evening ..

Somebody will no doubt find fault with it. Sky being one of those accused of playin down our success. Seems a strange way of doing it.

late on a Monday night a week after the title win, NBC had it ready the minute the season finished. Just surprised it's not half hour specials of each goal Salah scored this season.

Just watching the debate and Craig Bellamy has just absolutely nailed it. I paraphrase but he said what a nightmare it is for the rag supporters when city turn up. They’ve been in their shadow for many years and Utd fans have laughed at them for years. City turn up at old Trafford and the Utd fans had to watch the manager they wanted, managing the team they laughed at, playing the way they would love to play, turning them over and confirming their worst fears about how far behind City, Utd were.

Haha I have to say frank I’m sort of one of those,but the whole salah thing breaking the goals record and Liverpool securing forth is newsworthy but honestly us being the first team to get a hundred points in the league is by far bigger news..

It is pretty obvious that the term ‘documented all season’ is not referring to the 100 point but our achievements and the breaking of other records over the season.

I have not read a report on the game which has not mentioned us achieving 100 points. Type in Manchester City 100 points and find a paper what has not mentioned it. Just ridiculous to suggest its hardly been documented.
