garth crooks team of the week

the best quote bar none i have ever read hahahahahahahaah

Foden: I have selected Phil Foden in my team of the week but I must confess I do not see him being ahead of Jack Grealish, James Maddison or Mason Mount. He is undoubtedly talented but at Manchester City, he is surrounded by better, more gifted players. How can he not flourish

wash your mouth out crooks you dirty hatefulness bitterness man
Foden is not yet ready to take over from the adults? Does that mean he needs to go out on loan, how long have the media been saying he needs to play more?

The last time I cared about Garth Crooks opinion was (checks diary) never. The idea that city shouldn't get any credit because we are better then everyone else so success is expected is becoming increasingly pervasive. It is also why Pep gets little credit for solving problems and why our injuries are always downplayed.

It does get frustrating when that success is firmly placed on the wealth of Abu Dhabi. It is obviously a factor but we have the same constraints on our squad and buying power as everyone else. We are just better at working within those constraints than anyone. 100% our players cost a lot of money but arguable our most important players in the Abu Dhabi era ie Zabba, Kompany, Aguero, Dave, Yaya and Ferna cost individually less than Andy Carol and Rio Ferdinand.

Our more expensive signings ie Stones, Dias, Mahrez, Raheem, Ederson, Cancelo are either comparable to other players around or favourable compared to Maguire for instance. Mahrez is perhaps the exception and Mendy due to his injury record.

Rodri stands out as a pricey signing for his position. Bernardo also was potentially a "high" figure but has proven good value. Gundo cost less than Thiago and Veron 20 years ago.

You can also consider Foden cost us nothing, Zinchenko and Delph who had key roles in record breaking seasons were pretty cheap. KDB has been a bargain.

Our younger signings such as Jesus and Torres compare very favourably to Sheffield United spending £25m on Brewster. Sane stands out as an expensive young signing but we made a profit and got good value whilst he was with us.

Obviously I'm ignoring Mangala and some of the other duff signings to prove a point but we've done well because on the whole we've bought good players for fair prices and employed the best coach in the world. If you consider squad cost per trophies won as an indicator of value then we probably have the "cheapest" team in the league.

We've done it with Man City money thanks to FFP, with a fraud as a manager and with no fans in the stadium. I wouldn't swap if for anyone else

Souness is usually a pretty fair pundit but he looks out of sorts tonight.

‘Phil Foden is arguably better than Mason Mount...’

Fuck me Graeme, any other pearls of wisdom you want to share with us?
He doesn't look too well, a bit frail imo. Generally he speaks sense, and after the game he was balanced about Phil Foden..... Micah on the other hand...

Tomorrows Mirror
The oil cheats may have streaked 10 points clear of the injury-hit champions after luckily escaping a Red card for a terribly cynical foul by one of their trillion billion pound mercenary signings but football is the real loser. Allison had clearly not recovered from his recent illness and the way the City team exploited him was disgustingly immoral as is par the course for this rancid sporting organization. Null and void the season is the growing call among the football journalist community. The only way teams like Liverpool & United who develop local talent and pay moderate transfer fee's can compete with the Stockport bitters is having a snarling crowd evening up the financially doped scales. City may indeed win it but outside of a few streets in Cheadle Hulme and Bramhall, who really cares.
Were they fireworks going off outside the ground during the game or something else...... hope the players bus was ok. The cheeky young scallywags.

It has been noticeable for a while hope he is well and what we are seeing is simply him ageing, always like him from him being a Boro player, even at Liverpool (noting the hatred was not that bad in his day, constrained to good kick offs off the field) thought he peaked while at Rangers.

I'm not convinced that any footballer could flap and fall backwards like Salad without extensive cheating practice.
Can't think of anyone else who has mastered this particular 'art' of cheating and conning the officials. Even VAR are fooled (or maybe not......).
