Surely, even in this (at times idiotic) thread, no one actually believes that professional football clubs rely on pundits and journalists for analysis of an opponent?
You mean like 'teams need to get stuck into City'. It's the type studious in depth analysis that one or two clubs seemed to pick up on :)

This one?

Spot on and what I've said all along in the rag thread. He's inflamed the situation no end. He's supposed to be a football pundit not the mouthpiece for the rag fans. All the talk of them and Liverpool the grandfather's of football, get to fuck you weasel!

...and here's me thinking it was all the right wing, racist journos. Ah well.
I'm not really sure classical descriptions of left and right are that meaningful in a post-Soviet world.

The most militaristic and anti-foreign arguments frequently now come from what used to be regarded as the liberal press. In terms of football, the hostile argument against Manchester City ownership is based on really reactionary views that airbrush Britain's colonial past.

It's a double whammy for us. For example the Guardian hates us because of our wealth and the Daily Mail hates us because of our owner's ethnicity. In a way it's typical City. We have always been an anti-establishment club and now we are enemies of the Left Wing and Right Wing establishments. There is quite a bit of racism going on but the biggest factor is just old-fashioned envy. It reflects the way the world has become very polarised.

He's right though.

His club and Liverpool are the grandfather's of football. However, not in the way he would have us believe.

And like a lot of grandfathers' they often focus more on reminiscing about the good old days and have lost touch with modern life.

The reason we're seeing so many tantrums (sorry protests) from the rags et al is that they known the game is up for them and they can't see anything changing on the horizon.

I think after our bad start to the season when they were doing quite well they thought the tide had turned. They then beat us, we lost to Leeds and their hopes raised again. Seeing us three points from winning the title and in the champions league final, the league cup already in the cupboard the harsh reality is hitting home.

They are irrelevant now and nobody cares about them anymore.

Especially us. I might even go to the trouble of producing a fancy gif and writing about it on social media to show how little I care about Liverpool.

Hes not right this grandfather stuff is just made up sentimental crap. We were formed before those grieving murderers

Some pretty good stuff here from F365’s Mediawatch column. Andy Dunn in particular gets it straight between the eyes

Mate, the whole studio was massively pro-City for both PSG games.
To be honest I thought the commentators last night were rooting for Real Madrid until it became obvious they were total shite (in the last 20 minutes). I also think Chelsea get pretty crap treatment from the UK media in general. They get less respect than LFC and MUFC and, till recently, even Arsenal.
They are not treated as badly as City but there is still that sneering slightly xenophobic overtone to Roman Abramovich that we see towards our owner.
I think Chelsea have been great for English football since Abramovich came in in 2003, winning 16 major trophies and shattering the dominance of the self-entitled twats at MUFC and Arsenal. Like us they have also invested heavily in womens' football, youth football, and local infrastructure.

Had Talksport on since 7 for work. Their progression to the final hasn't had half the positivity ours had yesterday morning. Chelsea are definitely one of the 'outside' clubs in their little gang.

Chelsea are outsiders and always have been. They just get on with winning stuff while the London media fixates on Spurs and Arsenal. I think it's a shame that City and Chelsea have not worked more closely together on off the field issues. We share a lot of mutual enemies and don't have many friends at football's top table though that may change after we sparked the ESL split last week.
I honestly think if it wasn't for Chelsea, and more recently us, English football would have just become like the Bundesliga. German football has been destroyed by lack of competition.
