The FA Cup opens its Third Round weekend with a classic “David versus Multinational Oil-Powered Investment Vehicle” tie: Manchester City visit the County Ground to play League Two promotion prospects Swindon Town. The home side have had an unpredictable first half of the season, posting several wins against top-half rivals while stumbling against teams lower down, and without displaying much home form.
Their opponents are likely to be the City B team, but that means top-class players like Riyad Mahrez, Nathan Aké and rising young forward Cole Palmer eagerly displaying their skills, so Swindon still need a sporting miracle. Bigger upsets have happened before, though, and the FA Cup has become something of a bogey competition for Man City: they haven’t won it since 2019!
