Phil McNulty is a Liverpool-born sports journalist. He has been BBC Sport’s chief football writer since July 2000. I remember before a ball was kicked in 2019/20, the BBC wrote an article claiming Liverpool could win seven trophies that season. They ended up winning the league, the super cup on pens and beat the mighty Monterrey and Flamengo in the club world cup. As for the other four trophies they were destined to win, we beat them in the community shield, they lost 5-0 to Villa in the League Cup, got dumped out of the FA Cup in the 5th round and got beat home and away by Atletico in the CL Last 16. So all in all, they won one trophy and two glorified pre-season friendlies.
