Media Thread - 2021/22

Yep broadly I agree with this if you filter the crap and don't bother with the website or social.
Having said that, sometimes on the website there are proper objective articles which are a totally different tome to the clickbait headlines.
I think that's one of the problems with this thread and fuel to the paranoia of some fans. They are internet savvy and equate websites and clickbait with "the media" when in reality that is a tiny part of it. TV shows and to a lesser extent newspapers are still the mass market football media. MOTD, Sky Sports and to a lesser extent BT Sport and Football Focus are what the majority see.

I don't see much bias against City on those, although I do see a lot of clueless ""Analysts". The BT Sport coverage was pathetic on Wednesday, mainly because the pundits couldn't see beyond Messi's superstar status and couldn't analyse our dominance of most of the game. Sadly a lot of the pundits played the game but can't read it properly. And that includes most of the supposed pro-City pundits like Richards, Dunne and Sinclair.

It does more than TV. Their educational and ideas like BBC future are a world away from the news coverage.

I never understood why it's always been tagged as left leaning. The government of the day used to send spies in there to weed those pesky red bastards out.

The Tories are threatening it because they've never liked it for it's old news editorial of balance. Look what they are doing to Channel 4 who you could argue is the only left leaning channel on the networks.

The way the Tories scapegoated and scuppered the appointment of Jess Bramner to their board says it all.

With regards to the pay inequality it has been highlighted and is slowly being rectified. One of my favourite journalists Jane Garvey won't let that go and mentions it quite often when interviewing female colleagues on her podcast.
@mat With regards to the educational output, music (radio) and science they are very good..... but. ....
The one bit of political interference I want to see is them being ordered to sort equal pay by the month end. That it has dragged on for so long is a disgrace, after that the politicians should leave it alone.
Secondly I want it to be independent of political influence, whether that is right or left. I believe they were, they are not now and as long as their is a licence fee and the threat of its removal they won't be. Wether it could survive with funding in another form I don't know but we need panorama and proper political programmes to hold all parties to account. Sky is good for some things but they deliberately steer clear of asking hard questions as do others.

If some people think the Beeb are right-wing and others left-wing, would that not suggest they're fairly balanced? <grabs coat...>
no it'd actually suggest they play both sides, print things that annoy both sides in equal measures like any smart business. Why alienate a side when you can play both and always come out on top.

Make no mistake, the BBC is just as bad, if not worse than the other collection of parasitic cunts.
The whole pedo covering side of is just another feather in their cap, the money stealing, propaganda pushing fuckers.

All the media have everything crossed for a dipper win, infact we're written off already after our defeat in Paris and Liverpool's amazing victory against euro giants Porto. I like it when it's like this, takes the pressure off us to then hopefully put in a top performance

I get that, along with the arguments many on here post regarding their out-and-out antipathy to the BBC, license fee and all..

However, the past few days has once again shown up the football media (including the BBC) in its true colours; witness the dreadful, partial coverage of our game at PSG ('The Messi Show' as I refer to it) and compare it to 'The 2nd Coming Fest' during and after United's abysmal showing versus Villareal last night.

Those true colours are presented whenever there is comment made about City, in the form of anything from (at worst) downright misrepresentations (eg Dan Roan and the like) to (at best) underhand, sly digs even when they're damning our club with faint praise.

For City, it's pretty much a continuum of negativity; for the favoured clubs, it's massaging a collective ego.

And it's all in the name of click-bait to generate revenue for those media outlets which are quite happy to play along with the bidding of those controlling the favoured clubs who hate our club for having gatecrashed their cosy, financially rewarding cartel.
Good post bud and It sums up the current state of play.

I hate to follow a rag example but we need to hire PR manipulators.

If there's any violence at Klanfield on sunday can the Echo be prosecuted for stoking it? Their obsession with us is going into overdrive.
Gary the rat never got locked up for incitement regarding shit at the swamp. why the rush for Zebra pants is beyond me ;-)

Working for BBC Sport used to be a prestigious and respected job. Now it's like working for a tittle-tattle tabloid like the Daily Star.

MMA star, and 'Man Utd fan'.

If you need to know, Liverpool 4 - City 3.

Four Four Two has three good long City articles this month (September). One on Jack, Kinky and Pellegrini.

It's not the politics that bothers me the most... though it is certainly biased on certain issues. The main problem is that its content is riddled with mistakes, especially on the website. It rarely provides the full context of a story and as a result coverage is often misleading. It also remains totally London-centric. Huge stories happen all over the country and are just ignored. It covers foreign affairs better than it does places like the North East and North West. That said the World Service is mostly excellent.
