Someone posted an excellent piece on Twitter recently about the whole United media obsession and why is so much time and space being given to United's issues when, over their whole history, their average finishing position in the top division is 9th and it's beyond foolish to assert that they (or any club) should always be challenging for titles or in the fight for the league all the time. No team in England has continually been at the top - there has always been ups and downs in the every clubs history. Basically United are currently above their normal league position (currently in 7th) and should be accorded the same amount of media space that goes with that.

No, that was his response to the correctly held view that nothing they do can dent the way the Dippers are portrayed in the media. It was an excellent piece but it wasn't the one I was referring to.
Whoever wrote it was basically asking why are the media obsessed with their "what's wrong at United ?" angle.

This was created using all available seasons from 1889-2019. I don't suppose anyone has taken the time to update it since 2019.

City are 6th using the mean average(the most common method) or 8th using the median average. SD is the standard deviation, which shows how much variation(places above or below the mean average) in a clubs finishing positions there's been. So a smaller number is better when focusing on the top 10. City fair better than the Rags, Chelsea and Tottenham there, of the current big 6, which might be a surprise to some.
