Meeting Re: Atmosphere

That kind of misses the point - the loudness of the cheese stops people from even attempting to sing over it because to do so would be pointless.

It's a catch 22, as you now have a situation where too many fans don't even bother to get inside the ground until right before kickoff because of how bad it is, making it difficult to build an atmosphere. Look at Spurs when they play big games. The ground is full ages before kickoff and due to the lack of cheese they build up a real atmosphere. It is very noticeable.
But only a small number sing anyway - the PA stops at Kick off and during the game it's always the same people who sing. When we've scored and we're flying it's a different matter

Support during the game when it's 1-1 or we're losing is when it matters, and I guarantee you then that it's only small groups who will support the team

Try it and see. Worth a go
Spot on Marvin, people are either up for singing or they're not. Turning the PA off before kick off (when the majority are still talking and drinking on the concourse), creating a 'City end' or any other nonsense won't change anything.
It will. Plus the stupiud music before the game against Napoli spoilt the good atmopshere that was building. Songs started in the stands then all of a sudden some fucking Bealtes song was absolutely blarring out of the speakers for no fucking reason.

I hope they organise a 'City end' when South stand and the singing section sing together it sounds brilliant. At present its like there are 3 sets of fans in one ground.

Maybe the club next season can arrange for a number of supports clubs (groups of lads/women willing to sing there heart out) to be dotted around the whole south stand, as soon as it spreads everyone gets involved.

People just seem hesitant of geting songs going at home games in case of the embarrassment of going it alone!

Make it £2 (or buy one get one free) on pints before 2pm. City are then pocketing the money rather than pubs outside te ground. It also gets people pissed - more likely to sing, and gets you in the ground early rather than at 2.55pm.

City - ruining livers until 2pm

City - encouraging domestic violence since 2011

It's good that the club are trying to do something about it, but does anyone honestly expect it to work? I just can't see people suddenly putting their Werther's originals away and belting out chants just because there's no music 10 minutes before kick off. But anything is worth a try.

Thing is, one end would be good and something we've really missed at coms, but no doubt those around 111 would just move along a few blocks and stay that side of the away fans?

The loss of terrace culture, all seater stadiums and the Americanisation of matchday now with the emphasis on making it an "experience" means that we will never get the atmosphere back at football grounds, as to used to be.

When i say terrace culture i dont mean fighting either before some get all hot and bothered.

Kill the cheese, fuck the piped music off and let the kids come to the match like we did with our dads and let them learn how to support their team instead of trying to make it an "experience".

Football is the reason we go, not some knob jockey with a mike!

Sums it up perfectly.

One fact that somebody mentioned on a different thread is also a key factor; the "typical" football fan today isn't the same as 10/15/20 years ago. Their matchday experience is akin to going to a concert - they wanna see a superstar live and in the flesh and take pictures etc. They aren't as passionate about City and are less inclined to sing. They don't have an all consuming love for City and don't experience the feeling of tribalism that engenders atmosphere.

Sadly the way things are going, this type of person will before long outnumber your more traditional football fan

I actually don't think that's true, when it comes to kids, and it's them we are not attracting enough of.

Kids want noise. And passion. And singing. And a slight sense of danger/anarchy. That's what brings them back, otherwise they might as well watch on the telly. Any development in atmosphere in the stadium will be great for us to grow our fanbase.
