Mehdi Benatia

Can Atleti really buy a 30m CB? That seems well out of their price range. Going to lose Coutoise and Costa & Villa is another year older. I think Costa has a 25m buyout so they aren't even going to get his market value. I'd be stunned if Mangala signed for them. Yes they won the league this year but does anything think they have a chance in hell of winning next year? Seeing how Mangala specifically talked about wanting to win trophies I don't see Atleti as a realistic landing place.

They couldn't afford Falcao either it's all third party deals they are murky especially when Mendes (Mangala's Agent) is involved that's why the comparison with QPR are stupid because Atleti don't outright own all their players.

Series of tweets from James Horncastle: Quite the interview with Benatia in Gazzetta today.

Summary: MB - never said he intends to leave Roma. H/E feels he was ill-advised by his agent last summer. Signed for < money than he should
MB: Signed anyway b/c he liked the project. Club appreciated his decision, recognised his contribution. Said they’d meet in the summer
MB: Feels he has shown his worth. Says club has told him he deserves more + would be entitled to it if qualify for CL or win Scudetto.
MB: Club, h/e, made him an unacceptable offer. Press claimed he asked for 4m. Yet he says offer didn’t amount to 3m.
MB: Long and the short of it. Feels club made him a promise and they should keep it.
Benatia: I wouldn’t have a problem returning to Trigoria. I’d finish my career at Roma. But i’m disappointed. I deserved more respect.

Sounds a bit Yaya-ish, something to think about.

"The Morocco international has hit out at the club's hierarchy following a contract dispute, yet has not set his sights on a transfer just yet

Mehdi Benatia has voiced his dissatisfaction with his situation at Roma and has claimed the Serie A side are not keeping their promise to give him a better contract.

The centre-back joined Roma from Udinese in the summer of 2013, even though their offer did not match those of other clubs.

Benatia signed with the Stadio Olimpico side nonetheless following a promise that he would get a pay rise if they reached the Champions League, but the defender is not impressed with Roma's offer and feels he's being treated unfairly.

"Last summer, my agent advised me not to sign for Roma, because their contract offer was low compared to other offers and they didn't play in Europe. I still signed and never had any regrets," Benatia told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

"Roma had an intriguing project that I liked. The club told me they were happy with me during the season and said we'd meet for contract talks at the end of the season.

"Roma told me I would get a nice contract if we were to qualify for Champions League football. But then they made me an unacceptable offer. I've heard claims that I was asking for €4 million per year, but they didn't even offer €3m.

"I never asked for wages similar to Miralem Pjanic. I asked Roma to fulfil their promise. But the club told me to just accept their offer without even negotiating. I told them I will never sign such a deal. I prefer to stay on my current wages then."

Manchester City, Bayern Munich and Barcelona are believed to be monitoring the 27-year-old's situation at Roma, but Benatia has made it clear that he does not necessarily wants to leave, irrespective of his contract issues.

"I never said that I want to leave Roma. I just bought a house here. I like everything at Roma, the city, the fans and I have an amazing coach in Rudi Garcia.

"My mistake is that I have been too correct and too sincere toward the club. My team-mates know everything about my situation.

"All I have said is that clubs such as Real Madrid, Bayern and City can make ach player dream. I have no problem with staying at Roma, though. I could finish my career here. But I'm still disappointed with the club. I deserve more respect."

Benatia's contract with Roma is due to expire in 2018."
