Melanoma/ Immunotherapy

@BimboBob
I don't think you will mind me mentioning this story in your thread.
My mum is 88 and has had 2 previous operations for facial skin cancer. Last week she had a third after it came back right by and in her eye.
Last Tuesday morning my brother took her back to the hospital so they could remove 25 stitches and replace the dressing on her eye.
On Tuesday afternoon she met up with her friends for the weekly tea and cake they have at a cafe.
That generation are a different breed I'm so proud of her.

Good to hear musty. Look after her whilst you can mate.

The morning after the day one of immunotherapy has led to...

Nothing. No shitting myself, no extra aches or pains, just the steady throb of the under arm bollocks.

Got talking, as you do, to the bloke next to me who's been on it for 3 years now. He got diagnosed with dead in 3 months so he's a very happy man. That happy that he still drinks and smokes!!

Next one is on the 4th of January so hopefully I can have a few over the next 3 weeks.

Thanks for all the replies, stories (keep them coming as they help the missus out no end) and warm messages. Means a lot.

Although this seems a weird time of year to discuss this subject, it being the winter and all, I thought I'd share my experience of the last year and a half with you all in the vain hope that a few of you will at least check for any unusual skin blemishes, moles changing colour etc etc.

last April my Wife noticed a mole had gone a bit weird in colour and after a few checks etc etc I had a small op to remove it. I hadn't checked it for ages so never noticed it had gone a funny colour. It was found to be cancerous so I then had a bigger operation to cut out a larger area on my back and the nodes under my right arm as the nuclear dye they put in showed it would probably go there.

All well and good until early this year when one of my three monthly checks revealed that the cancer had not disappeared as first thought but had gone for walkabout into my left armpit and my lung. This is called stage 4. Scary sounding but it only means it's gone somewhere else.

I am now about to start immunotherapy on Wednesday. Which, according to my specialist, will knock it back a bit but not cure it. I am never going to be in remission. I so wanted to ring the bell as well. Life expectancy is not something discussed. If it all goes well then years, if not then...who knows...

So please, check yourself, men, women and children, if you have moles keep an eye on them. Check your skin. Anything that appears odd get it checked.

Now...a quickie...

If anyone has experience of immunotherapy please share your experiences. I know everyone is different but I'd still like to know.

Cheers all.
Fuck the cancer Bob, you'll smash it. Another sick swan.

My wife had surgery on her left shoulder in the 1990s & was given the all clear after removal of a malignant mole . 10 years later it had spread to the lymph nodes under her left arm pit .
after more successful surgery at the Christie she has thankfully been clear ever since .
I wish you both well .

Small update...

Christmas day afternoon was spent in bed, huge sweaty moments and couldn't get warm. Boxing Day temperature went on a haywire trip so went to hospital and spent the night being woken up by a nurse every 2 hours. Intravenous antibiotics and so much blood giving I was close to quoting Hancock. Chest xray, pill form antibiotics and home. Feel warm now. But I'm fucking tired.

A&E was horrendous. So many people turning up with a small cough when they could have just rung 111.
