It won't be the last team the owners buy either you can be assured of that.

Other large organisations will do the same and in fact have been doing so for some time.
It's off to the Far East next I suspect.
Now that's one huge market they will deffo want a slice of.

If I could I'd place a bet on China being the next league the City group delve into.

The Sheikh already owns a club that falls under the 'Asia' geographic region - I assume we are going for a club in each of the six regions. That leaves Africa and South America available to us. South Africa seems the most developed of the Africa leagues, and my bet would be Argentina or Brazil from the South American region (my head says Brazil but my heart says Argentina)

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

G'day all,
Firstly just want to say thanks for buying our club. Also thanks to all those that have posted positive things on our forum. We are an absolute basket case atm so this is the biggest and best thing our club has ever done. I'm in the main support group (Yarraside) and for the most part we are very happy to change our name to Melbourne City, sounds bloody better anyway. But we have to keep our red&white. We are more than happy to have our away jersey as sky blue.

Anyway just wanted to say g'day all I can't wait till I see heaps of poms at our games and a friendly in Melbourne.

Most cartoons are made of bad taste and to "shock". Worst things happen.

Interesting view on this topic as well, connecting with the FFP:

Hello, yet another Melbournian gracing your forum.
I am absolutely over the 'moon' that we have joined the city family and am looking forward to the future. I have always had an eye on Leeds becuase that's where my mums from, but now I will be calling mcfc my club in England.
Thanks again to everyone who has posted on our forums, it is very welcoming.
I also love 'blue moon', it's a great song! So here's to some good memories for both our clubs and our MLS brothers.

Hey guys, another Melbourne supporter here.
Thanks again, every heart fan on here has said everything i would have said, so i wont ramble on.

I was just wondering, do you have a fence banner that i can replicate to place on our 'fence'?
Or even an idea for a fence banner that connects the two clubs?

Thanks again.
Is there anyone that can answer this?

Welcome to all Heart fans and to the City family.

Just read that piece and it made me laugh about Manchester having only 500,000 inhabitants. They really should not rely in Wikipedia. That's how many people live in the city centre, an area of around three square miles. Multiply by around 6 when you factor in Manchester suburbs.

Regarding the name change and colours I think the owners will be sensitive to this but you have to look at the bigger picture. It's going to be about the "City" brand I'm afraid. Im not so comfortable with this word in football but it's where we are today and we all have to move with the times to compete with more established clubs and then overtake them. I'm sure the promise of overtaking the arrogant Victory would be a better incentive than playing in red. And as suggested, if this does happen, you can always play in red as an away strip. We do quite happily.

Re: MCFC buy Melbourne Heart FC (merged)

Sky blue is strongly associated with New South Wales and Sydney, maroon with Queensland. After having lived in Australia for 13 years now I can say that these things matter here.

I wasn't aware but if red and white is associated with Melbourne then much as it pains me we should always find a way to incorporate it in the kit. Maybe change the name / badge and add sky blue via the shorts and socks? I always thought Atletico Madrid look pretty smart.
