Van Gaal gave him his debut in the Dutch team and apparently he has been liking tweets on twitter linking him to United.

Let's use the 2 main signing for example: Mangala, while many loved it, I opposed it in the summer. Railed against it as being silly. For what seemed like obvious reasons at the time: 1 we had 2 very good starters ( at least we thought), a good backup in Nasty and youngvup and comers in Denayer and Rekik. Simply put, we didn't need a CB at the time, and he wasn't a sure thing. There are enough people, myself included who argued he was inconsistent at Porto. So why throw so much money on a position we didn't have a need in, and a player who clearly was at best a 2 year project.
As for Fernando, I always wanted Cabaye over Fernando- Not because I thought Fernando was going to be as poor as he was, but because it was cleat, from , watching his games and even his YouTube's that he wasn't an around CM.
Many often listed him after his arrival in a possible midfield 3 with Dihno and Yaya. The reason why that opinion was popular was coz intuitively, many realized his limitations as an all round midfielder. So when MP chose to go with 2 strikers as he often does, the problem was self evident.
Any as for Depay, he may not be the best Winger in the world, but he is far more direct than most of what we have. Also a tad faster and stronger. So it should not be a surprise that many would Luke here. He offers something we've been pinning for for 5 years now.
And when we don't get him or someone of that ilk, we'd be here nnext year pinning over the next speed dribbler out there: Karim Bellarabi?
Bloody hell, he is an old man by your usual pre-pubescent recommendations.
There is another lad at the same club i would hope City are watching and that is Hakan Calhanoglu. He has had a more than steady couple of years in the Bundesliga and is starting to get in the scoring and assisting bracket. The bonus ball being he can take a set piece,
If we look at where City need some cover or younger players i would suggest the latest of the Valencian left back production line, José Luis Gayá. He has had a very consistent season and is also starting to contribute to the goals. His defending has really picked up the last few months.
Back to Germany and having seen Nastasic twice recently he is doing more than ok, i really have no idea why he was frozen out, there are no footballing reasons he should have been. Even in BVB's demolition of S04 he was far from the most embarrassing out there. Ok he was skinned by Gündogan before he slung a great cross for Mkhitaryan to score but hey, he is young and will recover.
Co-incidently the next player could an opponent of Nastasic's on Saturday, the Hoffenheim centre back Niklas Süle. Not seen him this year, since the winter break, not sure if rested or injured but the lad can play and some of his tackles will make you wince.
Memphis Depay is nailed on if we are to be serious going forward and with him being in the Eredivisie he would certainly be cheaper than the overpriced and overheated Primeira Liga.
Other lads in that league would be Arkadiusz Milik at Ajax or rather on loan from Leverkusen (what is it with them recently?), Daley Sinkgraven at Heerenveen, Terry Kongolo at Feyenoord (lets hope his brother puts in a word) and his defensive partner Sven van Beek.
Two others would be Aymeric Laporte at Athletic Bilbao and Nice's Jordan Amavi.
Clearly not all of them but two or three should set us up for a good while and for not much more than Mangala.
Gaya is also my left back acquisition of choice. You simply cannot match the talent, aggression and age combination he offers.
If you checked my "anti-buying" Mangala thread from the summer, you'd see where I lauded Sule as one of the future top CDs we could have gotten for way cheaper this coming summer and thus shouldn't waste so much on Mangala in a restricted season. Sule is a Man-boy, and his ballskill ( a requirement) for any player I like, is fantastic.
Depay, well yeah I want him. Said it a thousand times. :)
Milik is a bit Harry Kane-ish to me. Don't know if he is having a great season or just a fabulous player developing.
Haven't seen enough of Laporte or Amavi. But I'm particularly intrigued by Amavi's opta stats. He is currently rated the best LB in Europe's major leagues. So I need to pay attention. That said, I doubt I'd prefer him to Gaya. There is something about Gaya I find Enjoyable.
But I like your way of thinking.
Good spot regarding Amavi - I've got a soft spot for Nice and with the state the club are in, we could probably get him for the cheap. Probably around €10 million I think, which would be a decent signing. Although, I'd like to see Angelino brought through over the next few years and signing a very young left back like Amavi would perhaps stop this.Rorz88 said:Dax777 said:You sound like a more articulate version of me. :)KenTheLandlord said:Bloody hell, he is an old man by your usual pre-pubescent recommendations.

I tell you what, Jordan Amavi looks some player, abit in the mold of Clichy, but with a beter cross and passing ability. loves a tackle and is very two footed too. him or Gaya in the summer would make me a very happy boy at left back. As for Depay, I think he could be our Hazard if he develops the way he should do, very direct, good eye for goal, young, hungry !
LoveCity said:A reliable Dutch paper said we were at that game to watch Willems. Never mentioned Depay. But then, I doubt City scouts would tell anyone who their eyes were on. All that is sure is that City had people present at PSV/Feyenoord. Seems there is a lot of interest in Depay, van der Wiel admitted PSG are watching him too.
