MEN - United have "embarrassed" City over academy graduates

On that march to glory in the EPL cup United went full strength whilst we put Garcia, maffio and Iheanacho
in the team, we blood kids in derbys they do it in dead rubbers.

The irony that Rasdhford scored the winner for them in a derby, skinning Demichelis alive, shortly after being anonymous playing for their reserves v v our reserve cbs, will no doubt be lost.

There was a top league in this country. We were in it. We were near the top of it. We had players developed, ourselves, good enough to play in our team.

Now, we don't have any 'good enough' to play five minutes in our team.

That's right, because the standard is so much higher now. Lets try it this way. What is the % of overseas players playing in each team with a chance to win the EPL, lets say the top six teams? That would indicate in general that there is not the volume of English players who can compete in this League, see the premium paid for those that reach the standard. Even after our investment in 2008 we found it hard to recruit the best players because of the great PR that United spouted and created the myth that they regularly bring youngsters through. We built the CFA and overseas youngsters saw this and our new position as CL qualifiers and EPL winners as a big plus. It takes time for kids to grow up and when they do if they are at the right level they will get their chance. Same situation with united.

If as you say your beef is with united getting away with claims that they give youth a chance and City don't then you might be better of not perpetuating their claim through your own post on here and doing the research to help bust the myth.

I'm saying I've seen kids of various nationalities, who I think might have had a chance of becoming players, if promoted at the right time. I'm saying Pellegrini was a fucking coward. I'm saying the same kids would have played for Utd & maybe a couple might have made it, others maybe sold for decent money. I'm saying some kids respond to the challenge, always has been the case & always will. Some go stale & lose their edge if they don't get the chance.

No, I'm saying Utd DO give them a chance, even whem many aren't quite good enough & it has NEVER cost them anything, they have only gained & what we are doing so far, stockpiling kids from all over & not using them for anything is wrong & that the dritcism from the rags is 100% spot on.

And I'm saying it's dead easy to fix it.

The people running the MEN must be pretty stupid. They are the only local paper I know of to have few if any links to their local clubs - they never get an exclusive, they effectively have to make stories up or feed off second hand scraps and to cap it all they employ United supporting Essex Boys to shovel shit on City - thus alienating a significant chunk of their rapidly declining readership. It's got so bad I even decline a free copy these days - I have no interest in reading the MEN and quite frankly will never read it again... but then again how much longer can it stumble on - it's clearly gone into decline like most papers in recent years but the way it's handled things has been very odd and totally counter productive.

No, we are just scared, unfortunately.

Their club is used to kids playing games, even shit ones & it usually being a success.

We have become scared shitless that playing a few kids costs us everything. We have had people like Kolarov dropping bollocks for half a decade, but a kid for one game, is too much of a risk.

Rashford only got in by necessity and from what I've been told by rags i know, wasn't even the 3rd best player
in his youth group.

McGuinness had already been interviewed in the MUEN well before Rashford's debut, telling them Rashford had been earmarked for a Utd first team debut. I was surprised, because although he was quick & obviously had some talent, we had players who were well ahead of him, who had not even had a sniff.

He was just the next cab off he rank, after James Wilson, who knocked in a few goals for them but could not reach the required level consistently.

Yes, you & it seems many on here are missing the point completely.

City have left Utd behind in signing the best kids & they are desperate to change it. Their people, including reporters, Gary, Phil Neville, Scholes, Wio, etc etc etc are all trying to change that by making sure everybody knows, that Utd will use kids in their team quite often, whaeras City (& Chelsea) won't.

They have do & will use them. We haven't hardly at all.

It DOESN'T MATTER if the kid ends up at Birmingham or Hull. The point is, he did ok for their 2nd team & he got in. We used to do the same, now we don't.

A few home developed kids off the bench, regularly, like they do & Spurs do & Arsenal do & the the problem is solved.
Sorry but you are plain wrong. Utds academy does not embarrass ours, we will produce better players over the next 5 years but only the ones deemed good enough will get in and thats how it should be.
