Messi’s contract at Barca revealed

It`s absolutely not. That would be 26m a year, and he would generate far more than that through shirt sales, increased sponsorships etc. Reports says he generates over 200m a year for Barca. Even though he`s old, he would be an incredible addition to the squad.

Last season (which was somehow deemed to be a bad season for him) he got 58 goal contributions in 44 appearances (G or A every 65 minutes). He`s still easily top 3 players in the world, but he`s playing with the likes of Braithwaite and a bunch of academy players. Even this season, after being forced to stay and looking demotivated at the start of the season, he has 21 goal contributions so far. If he wants to come here it would be madness to say no
He costs more than 200m to Barca if you count loyalty bonuses + success bonuses.

City are not going to make much money off Messi, if at all. It would be status signing than business one.

Barca don't need him off the books as being suggested at all. Quite the opposite. Despite the obscene money he earns, he generates at least that if not more for the club just by being Messi, not to mention the prize money earned because he's dragged them through a season.

If he is to come here in the summer, I highly suspect his contract will put him on par with our top earners and be topped up with bonuses and a substantial image rights deal so as not to force us into paying united wages (and by that I mean 500k a week on squad players)
That's the point I've made when people say we couldn't afford him. He's on over £100m a year but generates double that for the club if that report is correct. He pays for himself effectively.

Not only that but his departure also hits them in the pocket.

A 20 yr old Little Afie Haaland banging in goals for fun would attract far more attention, sponsorship and new fans than a 34 yr old fading superstar.

Messi was the finest player of his generation and arguably the greatest ever, but his time as a cash cow has peaked.

Find the new superstar (s), we may well have one on the books already.

Really Haaland will attract more attention than Messi!? REALLY?

That's almost laughable mate. But if it hasn't sunk in yet I'll say it again, Messi is self-financing. Not only is he self-financing, he generates excess cash.

So getting Messi on a free might well even pay for Haaland or M'Bappe. People need to understand Messi's incredible commercial pull, even at 33.

Would rather pay two top strikers in their prime £250k a week than £500k a week (and that is a conservative estimate his current deal at Barca is £850k a week) to a 34/35 year old , it is not good business and i dont think CFG will either. The romance of buying a City shirt with Messi on the back does nothing for me , would rather see a Haaland blue shirt with a No.9 on the back

He was self financing without a doubt, but if he signs for us, he signs as a 34yr old who has never played outside of Barca.

The premier league is a tough place to play football, and for a man with a young family, moving to Manchester will not be easy.

A move to New York and the MLS would be a gold mine for all involved, but not so sure about our side of things.

Looking at those salaries, its hardly wonder why they are fairly close to going bust.
Yes apparently they are trying to use Covid as a smokescreen but only about £100m of their £1bn debt is down to Covid. That's why the Cartel clubs are trying to launch their own bale-out Euro Super League.

Cavani doesn’t seem to be doing too badly.

Well we sign him for one year with a possible another year plus a 3 year contract for New York if he wants that! Not sure what he wants doesn’t he have a young family!

Barcelona are like Michael Jackson.

They are always going to be valuable, even if like MJ, they die.

That’s why the Catalan state Banks will always borrow them money.(to get them out of this mess)

But, but, where the f*ck is Tebas in all of this mess?

Speak out, you f*ucking hypocrit!
*lend them

If Messi ended up at the Etihad i suspect we would be going down the Rags route of buying shirt sellers , he will be pushing 35 years old and only ever experienced a less competitve La Liga , the Premier league is long hard slog in comparison. If his signing costs £500k a week then for a player in the twilight of his career it is madness , we should concentrate on buying two top strikers instead , due to Aguero's impending departure and Jesus not looking likely to fill Aguero's boots.
Messi and Haaland and Messi pats for himself anyway.

Also, he’d be 33 when he signed, not 35 and would be good for at least two years. It’s not like he relies on pace. We’d have all kept Silva at 35 on and Messi is 3x the player.

It has been said probably a million times now, signing Messi has no impact on other signings. The only thing you would be worried about is just how many goals hes going to score before the FA step in and change the rules to force us to playing with 10 men or something.

Signing Messi is perfect business for CFG, it is the crown jewel that we have been craving since the takeover.
