Messi’s contract at Barca revealed

Martin Samuel's reveals the extent of Barcelona financial plight.
And to think we have been lectured by all and sundry on financial fair play - how we can be painted as a negative to the sport compared to these and Rags is utterly scandalous.

We don't have free press, we have press that goes to the highest bidder - the fable is as outdated as the Catholic church..........

Can see why they didn’t want Messi to go if he brings in Revenue of around 200m while there other star players bring in a pittance compared to messi.

Barcelona will be in a lot more trouble once Messi leaves! 200m is a lot to recoup!

Seems like it’s between 200 and 300 judging by twitter. Can’t believe how anyone wouldn’t want Messi at City. Best player of all time and he would end up paying his own wages

Barcelona are like Michael Jackson.

They are always going to be valuable, even if like MJ, they die.

That’s why the Catalan state Banks will always borrow them money.(to get them out of this mess)

But, but, where the f*ck is Tebas in all of this mess?

Speak out, you f*ucking hypocrit!

Managed to translate a bit of the headline paragraph from El Mundo.

Messi: a contract made on his knees to take Barça from glory to ruin

The reading of the clauses shows the servitude of former president Bartomeu before the star. The more than 500 million cost is half of its debt. Earn almost double what basketball, handball and all other sections of the club cost

The Argentine Lionel Messi contract with FC Barcelona amounts to 555,237,619 gross euros, to be collected in four seasons -between 2017/2018 and the current one- until its expiration, on June 30. The figure is the sum of a fixed salary, image rights, a series of unpublished multi-million dollar bonuses, allowances and a string of variables depending on various objectives.

In a nutshell, Messi and his Father(Agent) had Barcelona over a barrel. They probably got everything they wanted from Barcelona when Messi and his Father negotiated contracts.

On a serious note. I sincerely hope if City do sign Messi, our Sheikh Mansour and the Directors don’t go down a similar road paved with gold. If these figures are true, let PSG have a free run at Messi. Even though I would love Messi to play for City.

Certainly if a debt no matter how big can be serviced like Man U then no problem but the exceptional Covid times have made the risk a reality for all.

Many businesses have suffered in many sectors but as you infer some state aid investment will be OK compared with the debt free way City have been managed via original start up investment.

How did they have Barca over a barrel, surely Barcelona had the same band width as all other clubs and players in rejecting their demands (or am I missing something)?

Such a shame, he's a one of a kind talent, one of a generation, to see is Barcelona career end like this. No matter what the circumstances, for it to end like this risks tarnishing everything.

I can only see that this is coming from within the club, and that speaks to the panic and turmoil there currently. On top of that you have Tebas acting in their behalf because 'they have no president' right now and he just feels he has to protect them.

I can see this escalating now even more. If it doesn't then he risks them damaging his reputation further. Messi loves Barca but they've really took a dump on him from a great height here. It must be affecting him and I can see a response from his side, whereas before his love and respect for the club has almost always stopped him.

What form that takes I don't know, moving during a pandemic isn't attractive, but clear that he'll be painted as the cause of their lack of success this season too. I don't think you can loan a player like that, so we could be in for a few months of back and forth or even Messi refusing to play.

Also clarifies why De Jong went there rather than link up with Pep, and highlights that city are not in fact throwing money at every situation or buying any title. Whilst undoubtedly Barca have incredible cash generation potential worldwide, pinging £300k at a young kid from Ajax or a young French winger after one standout season is always a risk.

Barcelona as a football club will not be allowed to fail, they are far too important as a brand, but they need a rebuild now from board to dressing room and that is going to be painful. Must like their stadium the Nou Camp, they have become iconic but a dump.

Eric Garcia may think rejoining his childhood club overrules all, but he should be asking serious questions about the who and how of their future. The pandemic will hit them hard, I don't see De Boer as any kind of solution and I think neither does any of the presidential candidates, so what is going to change? No Messi, new Barca, success doesn't happen overnight. And like all the history clubs (most famously see united and slurgie), the plan of action is still unclear and smeared by infighting and poison.

3.2. Need for State intervention

53.Member States that intend to grant restructuring aid must provide a comparison with a credible alternative scenario not involving State aid, demonstrating how the relevant objective or objectives in section 3.1.1 would not be attained, or would be attained to a lesser degree, in the case of that alternative scenario. Such scenarios may, for example, include debt reorganisation, asset disposal, private capital raising, sale to a competitor or break-up, in each case either through entry into an insolvency or reorganisation procedure or otherwise.

If Messi ended up at the Etihad i suspect we would be going down the Rags route of buying shirt sellers , he will be pushing 35 years old and only ever experienced a less competitve La Liga , the Premier league is long hard slog in comparison. If his signing costs £500k a week then for a player in the twilight of his career it is madness , we should concentrate on buying two top strikers instead , due to Aguero's impending departure and Jesus not looking likely to fill Aguero's boots.

it's what happens when the institution ends up being run by the sycophants, suits and hangers on rather than the people that made it great in the first place. Cruyff would be turning in his grave if he saw shit like this. The reason Barca mean anything is because of what they instilled on the pitch, they never had the right to dictate things off it and it's now biting them.
Cruyff is one of the very few people who really could turn in their grave.

It`s absolutely not. That would be 26m a year, and he would generate far more than that through shirt sales, increased sponsorships etc. Reports says he generates over 200m a year for Barca. Even though he`s old, he would be an incredible addition to the squad.

Last season (which was somehow deemed to be a bad season for him) he got 58 goal contributions in 44 appearances (G or A every 65 minutes). He`s still easily top 3 players in the world, but he`s playing with the likes of Braithwaite and a bunch of academy players. Even this season, after being forced to stay and looking demotivated at the start of the season, he has 21 goal contributions so far. If he wants to come here it would be madness to say no

On the flip side Messi generates more income for Barca in shirt sales, sponsorships ect than his yearly wage so the club will think that's a good deal.

Where they have fucked up is the wages they are paying other players which are completely crackers

Griezmann £550,00 a week
Coutinho. £350,00 a week
Dembélé. £245,00 a week
De Jone. £300,00 a week
True, the whole thing is crazy and we are in the middle of it. I remember the head of the FA Graham Kelly going on Saint and greavsie discussing the new Premier League coming in and said individual stating that “football has been under financed for years in this country”; well you can’t say that now!

It's a perfect time to get rid of him. He is still a really good player but obviously not what he once was. Let him go to someone else that will pay a kings ransom for him.

after getting paid that amount for the last 5 years and 15 years of being the best paid player in the world
money is not be a problem for messi the hunger and age is ?? any club willing to pay 500.000 a week for messi are daft ? now did manchester city offer or matched that we will never know. but the one big thing is ? if we did manchester city would be playing a silly game and gambling on our future

messi is not a football player anymore he is a person product a one man business a media market leader and sells shirts and merchandise. football is 2nd or 3rd on the list he brings to a club. the club will only get or make a small percentage on the back of messi ? its around 90% foundation messi 10% left to split between club and others

the amount of money going out of football into players banks accounts are crazy ? clubs make so little profit from the playing football on the pitch its now gone the other way ? clubs are going broke and running big debts and players are now richer than the club they play for and that can not be right or good for the game
