We could afford Messi, beyond that though i think we are the only real alternative for him besides possibly Bayern.
Utd are a big risk for him if he did take that last big contract, it wouldn't matter who he was sponsored by. No way Messi would use his last big transfer chance to be affected in any way beyond anything besides chances of playing how he likes to play and winning more trophies. Our attacking mentality fed by Txiki would be a big draw to him.
Italy is a backwater in real terms for someone like Messi so that is out of the question. So us, Chelsea (not with kill joy maureen in charge) or Bayern seem his only real choices.
Arsenal in fairness could be an attraction also on second thoughts, i am not sure their board would even consider paying such an amount (needed to secure his services) for any player though.
So many dynamics though should he ever leave, who is our manager at the time, who is Bayerns, will his hunger dissipate after being so successful for so long (doubt it) and so on.
We would be one of his top 2 options though i reckon.
