He LOOKED world class when playing in a world class Real Madrid team.

- At Real they didn't rely on him to change games, so there was far less pressure
- He barely ever played more than 70 minutes in Madrid, so it wasn't hard to stay fit
- When he went missing in a game it didn't matter as much because Ronaldo or Di Maria or Benzema would do the business
- He was considered world class because of his assist tally, which is skewed when you are supplying someone like Ronaldo
Look at how other Madrid players have done like Di Maria or Alonso. It's not playing for Madrid that makes a player look world class, but Madrid players are generally world class. Look at what he did in the 2010 world cup or at Bremen before he got his move. He was world class and was Madrid's second best player during that period. Some players just lose motivation, party too much or lose form.

It is true he did not have the fitness to last past 70 minutes and was regularly taken off.

I also agree that his mentality was not the best, but there are a lot of world class players like that. With his ability it did not matter so much.

He was fantastic at the World Cup in 2010 and he was very good for Real Madrid (most of the time). And if he joins City he will be playing with better players, but the 2 major flaws that are causing his poor performances for Arsenal would still be evident if he signed for City IMO:
1. Fitness. If he can't manage 70 minutes in a far less physically demanding league like Spain, then he's not going to cope in England.
2. Attitude. He's lazy and arrogant, something we don't tolerate here (anymore).

I would stay clear of him, as I don't think he's an upgrade on Nasri and doesn't offer anything different like Navas and Milner do. Rumor we want him to replace Yaya is laughable, he's weak and slow and lazy. Yaya's just lazy ;).

Oh I agree and I would never say City should buy him, though at City he will probably think he is playing at his level. The partying rumours, living in London and thinking he is better than he is are huge problems. I think he may never recover his form now.

No for me too, We need players who put a shift in and don't drift out of games when the going gets tuff, we can't afford passengers at the highest level as has been proved.

At first I thought like many and said no. However thinking it over it does bring a little logic bringing him in January. Yaya going to AFCON and Lampard to NYCFC we need somebody. Now I'm not saying play him in Yaya's position, but you can play Fernandinho and Fernando in the CM and play Ozil in the 10 spot with Silva and Miler on the wings. Both Fernandinho and Fernando aren't great at passing and knowing Pellegrini he likes to keep possession. I could see Ozil dropping back when we play out the back to bring the ball up. One thing Ozil is good at is possession and passing. He and Silva could link up and Ozil would be another threat to slip a through ball to the striker. In a 4-4-2 he could play as an inverted winger. The thing that is a worry is his work rate and defending though.

woudnt you prefer silva to play in that #10 role? he was unplayable v rags and dippers and v the arses last season in that position

But the thing is that Ozil out wide doesn't work either. I think that's one of his main problems at Arsenal. Plus the fact they don't have a world class striker he can slot through balls into. Silva has played on the left, but always cuts in and more or less has a free role anyway. If Silva was to get injured too we'd be doomed. Ozil could fill in if necessary.

If Yaya isn't going to AFCON that's great, but it's news too me.
