Anyone who thinks problems with the trams are all Andy Burnham's fault: what's the reason public transport in every UK city outside London is shit? The problem nationwide is privatisation and decades of underinvestment.
I read somewhere that there is the possibility of building a tram maintenance shed in Ashton so there could be a shuttle service between Ashton and New Islington while Piccadilly is rebuilt. Still very early days of course and there's always ...Maybe now the buses are being centralised again they could introduce direct matchday special services from the outlying areas? They’ll probably have to do something similar anyway once the Ashton line closes for a season for the HS2 works
Yes I won't get the tram back. If I get transport it's the bus. I think people in the queue hope they will get lucky and it moves quickly but that rarely happens. Another problem with walking is due to being wrapped up against the cold you're wringing wet with sweat when you get there.
The Metrolink was never privatised.Anyone who thinks problems with the trams are all Andy Burnham's fault: what's the reason public transport in every UK city outside London is shit? The problem nationwide is privatisation and decades of underinvestment.

Publicly owned too.Yes it was. Has previously been operated by Stagecoach & RATP, the operator of the Paris metro. It is currently operated by Keolis / Amey although publicity funded
that was referring to public transport in general in the UK, including but not limited to Manchester's awful bus servicesThe Metrolink was never privatised.
I get the tram there and walk back into town after the game. Takes 15-20 minutes to walk to Piccadilly.
3 bridges are too low on the Canal and it dog legs north so isn't the qucikest route. Agree it needs lighting, and gets very grotty closer to the stadium. It's a 30 minute walk that in areas isn't well sign posted or well lit. Especially along the canal. If they want people to walk they need to improve these kind of things to be more appealing.
Do you have PL football teams, a county cricket club, a velodrome, a swimming centre, a big indoor arena (soon to be 2), an athletics stadium, a speedway track etc etc? Metrolink should cater better for one off events, unfortunately it doesn’t.Despite everyone's complaints about transport in Manchester, it's a million times better than most provincial towns
Where I live in Stafford, there are no buses after 6pm on weekdays, and no service at all on Sundays.
Where I am in the South Stand it is difficult to get to the buses because they block the route to accommodate away fans. So it is Metrolink or walk the canal tow path. This 15 to 20 mins walk back to Piccadilly i find it hard to believe.
I think my record is 30 minutes and that would be to Ancoats Travelodge.
As some have said an uncomfortable walk due to sweat and add on dodgy knees.
Bus the way to go.Very civilised and no real overcrowding.
Ideal for the South Stand regulars.

I've started parking at a car park behind Picadilly station called Sheffield Street Car park, it's £5 for up to 8 hours, but it's an easy get away if you get back quickly enough to the car park. It's probably a mile (ish) walk straight along side the tramway (pretty much).Hello,
Away fan here travelling up by car tomorrow.
Where's the best place to park? And what time to arrive?
Many thanks
