Went into Manchester on Monday the tram broke down between Stretford and OT Cricket Ground. Eventually struggled into OT and we all had to get off whilst the tram went back to the depot. If it had happened on a match day I would have been furious.
The saving grace was that we pulled into St. Peters Square just as the bugler was playing the last post for the rememberance service. Gun salute and 2 minute silence followed by a further gun salute. The tram remained stationary throughout. After the silence the tram driver appologised for the delay but as an ex-veteran himself he wished to pay his respects.
What a wonderful thing to do.
