Metrolink to the stadium

There's no conspiracy. I can assure everyone that planning for such work can take months to arrange and is never carried out on a whim, except in an emergency. Any work of this nature was likely to have been prearranged before the fixture list was even published.

If you care about City fans so much, consider the ones who don't have a Metro link. I've never seen them moan about it on here.

They also do on matchday, often. And as I've said have shut down the Alty line on the Saturday matchday, and left it open on the Sunday last season.

As for caring about City fans, I care about a service that is regularly (1 in 3 or 4 home games) not workingon my line. If as you say it is a conscious decision to close down North Manchester on United home games, and south Manchester for City home games that directly affects me and my feelings about the quality of the service the Metrolink offers.

Fortunately, after making the mistake of buying a match day season ticket for the Metrolink last season I'm not stuck with a shit service this season.

So why North Manchester for United games, and South Manchester for City games?

FWIW I'm not claiming conspiracy, just a shit service.

Guys, Are there Buses at the stadium that go too Piccadilly Station after the matches and if so how soon do they leave after a game, for Sat Afternoon games and Sunday 4pm kick offs.. Also how long would it take me to walk from stadium to Piccadilly Station.. Cheers

When leaving after a game, give yourself 3/4 of an hour from the final whistle to walk to the station. If you're a leave before the end type, just stay at home, it'll be quicker!

20 min walk

Just wondering why they couldn't put it back a week later, because the weekend after the 30th August is the 6th/7th (Saturday/Sunday) September, which is a International weekend with no Premiership football at all ?

They're doing Eccles line that weekend so that's down. They spread closures around so as not to piss too many people off at the same time. I suppose the question is are there more city fans in Eccles or in alty?

Either way it's going to pis someone off!

I didn't know we had any Saturday match days last season!

Correct.

Here's a useful website: <a class="postlink" href="http://www.transformationinformation.co.uk/information/eccles-ashton-under-lyne" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">http://www.transformationinformation.co ... under-lyne</a>

Why do they do so much maintenance, can't they get it right the first time?

Also as Moomba says it is an absolutely shit service and the north/south closures make no sense at all.

I am at a loss to see why they need an "Airport" line, how will they decide what is the best time to close that one, is there a day without any flights?

Finally those new trams, the suspension is awful, between Stretford and Dane Road they are like being in a tumble dryer.

Maintenance is an ongoing issue on any transport infrastructure, if it wasn't done you'd be complaining even more. Also some of the work is for upgrades such as the realigned platform and tracks at Deansgate/Castlefield in preparation for the new cross-city section which is why the Alty line is terminating at Cornbrook on the 30th. They can't do all that expansion as a "big bang" because central government only releases the funds on a piecemeal basis.

That's due to the new built in public health cleansing system required for that part of Trafford.

To add to that, most of the work is contracted out and the staff at these firms don't just turn up to their depots to be greeted by a manager who says "Right lads, load up the van, we're doing a 30 mile trip today as there's a Metrolink platform to build." As I said earlier, it's planned and costed many months in advance, and if work just happens to coincide with match day, then it's just how the cookie crumbles.
