Micah Richards the pundit

Please can you remind me of his consistently poor games ? And then ask yourself was he playing CM and also how does his playing time compare to others that have or are having poor runs of form like Sterling and Mahrez.
I can't remember which games specifically because may of those turgid early season games blur into one now, but he was poor for several games before being dropped. To be honest he's not been brilliant all season apart from the odd flash. I'm not interested in comparing his game time with others because each player gets managed individually by Pep. Some respond to being allowed to play their way into form, some respond to a shock. Both Sterling and Mahrez have played their way into form this season. John Stones and Bernado, on the other hand, were repeatedly left out for many months. It's currently happening with Laporte too.

I know people love an Academy player in the team but that doesn't give him a free pass into the team. I'm very happy with the way Pep has managed him for the last two years and I hope that yesterday's performance is the start of him getting back to his best. He'll play on Wednesday of course.

The point is i think it would be hard to argue that he has not been one of our better players this season, and not one of our poorer players as your initial post infered. Anyway, I think criticising Micah for expressing an opinion is a bit silly, just because you happen to not agree with it. He isnt there to be Peps mouthpiece he is there to give his opinion is he not?
Over and over and over again when sky decide every week to insinuate phil is mad with playing time and want to leave , it is a regular script and he plays along every time , he was very disrepectful to pep , it is time he went against that script if he is really speaking for us

If you mean what I think you mean, Kaz, then Foden handles the interviews well. He's media trained and just gives bland answers. The minute he starts an argument with an interviewer or contradicts the manager or in general expresses any emotion, you've got a live negative headline waiting to explode.

Im sorry but I don't agree with you that Mahrez has played his way into form, hes had a couple of good matches one against Burnley, then he became next to useless again. Sterling cant hit a barn door at present, hes been frankly dreadful in front of goal. I would proffer that neither has been as consistent as Phil and both have had considerably more minutes.

He's only just starting out - someone has seen something there to work with.
Let's be honest we don't have a large pool of ex-City players to pick from for pundits. I'm just glad we've finally got one out there
I agree mate and I really hope that Nedum Onuoha gets more exposure on the likes of BBC, SKY etc. as I think he could be an excellent pundit.

Hes not being disrespectful to Pep, hes a pundit offering his opinion. An opinion shared by many fans on here. Just because you and others don't agree with it doesn't mean its not valid Kaz.

Well we have to disagree, then. In my opinion you are partly right but only partly: I'd say that Mahrez, Streling and Foden have all been patchy (at best) all season. Certainly overall I don't believe Foden has outperformed either.

I'm happy with the way Pep manages all the players and I trust in his vision of the bigger picture.

Happy to disagree but a bit baffled by some of your rational Dave. The stats from this season for those three players don't really back up your argument. They indicate that Foden is having a much better season despite playing less minutes.

A post back you said Mahrez and Sterling have played their way back into form? Are you sure you meant that?

I’m not interested in stats. I’ll judge the players with my own eyes.

In my opinion Foden has been very patchy, odd good games, odd good spells but nowhere near consistent enough or involved enough. Saturday was his best of the season.

Sterling has not been at his best all season either however he’s always a threat, despite patchy end product. The last couple of games have seen him looking better and a couple of decent goals should improve him even further. He’s had a couple of patches like this in his city career including a long one at the beginning of last season but every time he’s come out of it scoring prolifically.

Mahrez is a good footballer but has a tendency to be a one trick pony. It’s a good trick which gets him goals but he has to mix it up, and go outside players as well as inside, to be effective. He has been poor for much of this season but has looked better the last few times he’s played. He wouldn’t be in my best team.

I don’t know how many times I can say this: they are different players in different positions with different needs. Some players need the confidence of the manager, and dropping them for a spell can be counterproductive. No manager gets it right all the time but overall I’m happy with Pep’s decisions on all three.

I’d start Sterling and Foden but not Mahrez on Wednesday.

Yeah phil is very impressive in interviews , shame he has to bat away another newspaper rumour picked up by sky after such a great win

Love Micah. I'd much rather listen to him than any of the other boring pundits. Quite like Souness too, but someone with micah's energy is needed.

Fair enough, thanks for your response Dave. I would tend to agree with your assessment for Sterling, Im less enamoured with Mahrez. However I would like to see Foden given more playing time as I feel he has played better and with more energy and i feel that based on my own eyes and the stats back that up. Anyway a good debate, have a good evening.

i’m not sure i agree. Foden gets a free pass when he plays terribly, against Leeds he looked lost in the midfield. He has had good games and bad games and indifferent games.

Mahrez has won us some games with his goals but it all seems to get forgotten when he misses a chance by the people on here in particular. I think some city fans have had it in for Mahrez from the moment he missed the penalty at Anfield.

He's confident and articulate. I don't think many people appreciate just how difficult it is to talk live on camera - it takes quite a bit of bottle.

Micah certainly brightens things up but I think is mouth goes into gear before his brain sometimes.
I agree about Souness he stood up for city after the ffp ban was turned over by the arbitration panel, I will always be grateful to him for sticking up for City.
