Micah Richards

Thank my giddy aunt that someone else thinks that Richards can't defend like me, because imo it's true.

Going forward Richards is miles better, and like others have said I'm glad we have two fantastic players for the same position.

The same can't be said about Kompany's replacement as we don't have one.

How is Richards miles better going forward. If that were the case he would have miles more assists miles more chances created and miles more goals. How else would you judge it. I believe Richards has slightly better stats.
Richards had the third most assists in the squad and was top 12 in the Prem in our tile winning season.
Caused a few 'pre-assists' with his pull backs too, not to mention the ones that should have been buried.

Miles better going forward. No one will convince me otherwise.

If Zaba could exploit the positions Richards can, he would be so good it's funny.

Totally with you on this. It's about pace, overlapping and pulling back. A cross from a zabaleta area, 20 yards before the touchline, is easy to defend. A cross from the line is a nightmare to defend. It's all about that burst of pace over 5 yards. Zab had a poor game last night but it would be disingenuous just to point at that and say 'I told you so'. He usually can defend and has learned to defend against wingers with much more pace than him. But I think Micah is a great defender too and the perceived weaknesses in his game are little more than a cliche now. If enough people say 'he doesn't concentrate' then it becomes an accepted truth in some quarters. there were a couple of incidents about 2 years ago where he bombed forward and got bollocked for not coming back quick enough. But he's learned from that and hasn't done it since then.

Why is this even a debate?

It was almost unanimously agreed on BM, but since Richards had an injury ravaged season, it seems certain BMers have forgot about him and flip flopped their opinion.

Again, nobody is debating that Richards isn't better going forward..are they? But Zabaleta IS a better defender, and made huge improvements in his game going forward when Micah was injured. I still think Micah gives us much more going forwards when he is on form than Zaba does and this often means that we don't need to defend like we did last season. Both of them make good runs behind the fullbacks but only Micah has the ability to take players on and beat them (in his own way) and his final delivery was brilliant in the title winning season.

Really. Well thats me told. Wasnt aware he created so much.
Are you serious?

Like I said, his injuries last season seems to have made a few posters forget his quality.

I am serious - I never really thought of him as a creative player. I cant recall any assists but obviously I am wrong.

Possibly he was out of sight out of mind last season. More than happy for him taking this season on by the scruff of the neck.

Yesterday is another match Pablo shows his weakness in the air, his 1 to 1 isn’t great either and his going forward is not bad but it is still the weakness of the team. Let me explain one by one.
What everybody can see, he is not great in the air because of his height and when the cross comes in he is always at the shoulder high. Their target man will wait the cross at Pablo side and try to header back to middle of our box that is sometimes look like some teams attacking plan.
His 1 to 1 is not great. Madrid found out and played on that side throughout second half.
His going forward is the real weakness to the team. Other teams try to concentrate on pressing and double up against Silva, Nasri, Yaya and Kun and let the final ball going to Pablo who cannot shoot and cross and we end up with the weakest link.
With respect to Pablo who gives his all to the team, Micah is my choice.

Micah played better against Bayern than Zaba did that's for sure. As I expected.

Like I posted earlier in the thread, Zaba stabs too much, and Ribery fucked him time and time again because of this.

Micah also wouldn't have left Boyata on his own, as he revels in getting in the box and clearing away crosses.

What Ribery did to Zaba today, he couldn't do to Micah.

There's been talk about Micah brain (wtf? is it because of how he looks), and positioning, but tonight Zabs was appalling in both regards and had me shitting it.

We get it - 23 fucking posts in the same thread telling people that 'zab stabs' and 'micah wouldn't get fucked' by ribery - shut the fuck up you whining little snizzle cum sack- christ almighty!!!
