Millner vs. Ireland - alternative thread

The thing is, the fact that they play different positions makes it even more of a strange decision. We will have Yaya, DeJong, Barry, and Kompany, who can all play the role Viera plays. But in Ireland's position there's Silva and nominally Tevez. For all the arguments for why Ireland isn't seemingly good enough to be in our squad, I'd argue that if we sell him and don't replace him, there's the potential we could struggle if either Tevez or Silva is injured in the coming season.

My guess is Bobby would have Balotelli, sweep or Assulin (possibly?) play in that position if push came to shove. Shauny played there for a little while yesterday and did a nice job, looked brighter than Ive seen him in a while.

As far as Vieira goes, I think (hope) he is there for his experience and leadership capabilities, dont think he needs to play anything more than a bit part role, not with the players we have that can play that position.

Nah, SWP and AJ are wide players. Assulin is nowhere near being a City player, and lord knows whether he's anywhere near good enough to be getting anywhere near our first team. I understand Viera's a leader. But that squad's overflowing with experienced leaders who have played at the very top level.

I have a sneaky suspicion that Robinho is going precisely nowhere if Ireland goes. Could be wrong, but Robbie would be the obvious choice as cover for Tevez and Silva...

Ireland had one good season. Because of that, people think it's a given right that he should stay, despite the fact that we have better players who are more versatile and consistant. I'm sorry to say but, We can't hold onto players that might do it in time, but players that have the skill to do it in a season or 2 (this 25 man rule). To be honest, Milner's had one good half season for us, when he was switched to the centre of midfield when Downing came back into the team. prior to that, he was pretty ordinary.

Just a point Ireland would get us more money if he was put up for transfer instead of in a deal for a player. If Mancini wants rid why limit he to Villa we could well get more money from elsewere for Ireland instead of giving him away in this deal. If the club had any sense thats what they should do. Then put in a precentage of any sale on top of it because if he regains the form of 2 years ago there will be many teams looking to take him.

With Vieria on his way next season I would rather we loan Ireland out on a 6 month deal. Then if anyone gets injured in Jan we can recall him to the squad. No matter what happens I will be interested in what Mancinis squad will look like as it is too fucking defensive and as a player he was more of a attacking player.

Milner is a Jack of all trades midfielder type of player. He can play any position accross the midfield and at a push even full back. This is what I feel hampers Milner. For in my opinion in either position accross the midfield he is no better than what we already have to be fair. I would favour Johnson over him on the wings and Bellers / Silva / even at a push SWP. Central area I dont think he will get in ahead of better defensive players that Mancini tends to play.

As for Ireland days are numbered which is a poor decision my Mancini in my opinion. Silva looks lightweight ans will need time to get used to the English game. For that reason you would think Mancini would want to hold onto Ireland for his vision , passing ability and if he can reproduce form of old his goals from midfield. Milner scored a lot last season from set pieces I cant see him getting near any set pieces here because of the other players at the club.

I would honestly stick with Ireland over Milner as he offers something different to what the majority of our central midfielders offer apart from Silva but IF Silva gets injured we will be left to what happen last season lack of creative play in the final third.

if you think the first half last night was crap you probably shouldn't bother watching football. We've never had so much talent in 11 players on the field at one time than we did yesterday.
