1: We've been on this one since May and i've never heard anything negative about our communication.

2: The lad is desperate to join (half way there)

3: Villa have come to terms they are going to lose him and can't do much about it (nail in coffin)

4: Wait for announcement

Inflated price but it comes with the wanting the right ingrediants to make the perfect dish...............

I was told last week 7-10 days which i posted on here so i'll stick to that but it'll take what it takes to get done.
My own personal opinion is he'll make his debut against Valencia

Milner will be our player of the season next year. I know it's a bold call but I honestly believe he will be that good. I hate to say it but he'll be like Fletcher is to the rags and we really need that type of player. Mancini supposedly wants to play the diamond formation and his signings clearly fit into this formation. Our midfield will have toure sitting just in front of the defence then Barry and milner ahead who will be expected to attack and defend and silva will play just behind the strikers. In this formation Ireland can cover for silva but isn't the type of player to play the same role as milner and Barry.

Honestly think milner will be a great buy

This makes sense and indeed your point about the diamond formation sounds plausible. We'll soon see what it will be in a few weeks.

I don't think we had much flair and creativity from midfield for much of last season... Just a selection of defensive mids until AJ turned up. We desperately needed a Berkovic or Bernabia type ... Particularly in the big games (united home, spurs home).

i admit the price is on the high side but dont forget ireland has only had one good season!! milner has been consistantly good for the last 3-4 years!! could turn out to be a very important signing if it happens.

Valid points. The product is worth what the purchaser is willing to pay. A worth cannot be evaluated by a bystander. If the Sheikh, the board and RM believe he is worth £50m, then he is worth £50m (admittedly exaggerated to emphasize the point).

I don't believe we will pay £30m, they'll be a compromise. The over inflated price is merely the City tax, which is very real despite the joking. However, i'm betting the fee will be undisclosed and we'll never know the price (although most of the papers will print between £30 and £35m).

I'm expecting City to go in with an increased bid of £25m. This is likely to result in a £25m - £26m sale.

In essence that would be acceptable business done.

This deal could be done very quickly now, imo, the only thing that could hold this up is where we are at the moment, logistically speaking, Cook is over in America, I believe Marwood is over in Italy, so it may be a case of waiting a little longer for Milner.
On another note I notice alot of posters comparing Milner to Ireland, and saying that they would rather stick with Ireland. There is no reason why the two cant co exist at City, as they are different players, but Milner wont be taking Irelands place, lets be honest thats already been taken, thats the problem with Ireland.

There's a pattern to all his signings and one word springs to mind and that's versatility.
I think it might be an idea to introduce a weekly guess the team comp as it'll be a hard one to win that's for sure!

In agreement with a lot of posters on here, while Milner did not request to leave MON had the upper hand in negotiation could demand the 30m, the minute the lad said he wasn't signing a new contract the negotiation shifted, they could turn down an overinflated price for him and have a sulky player or take a compromise amount, I agree 25m sounds about right and allow MON to re invest in the team, he won't want to piss us off too much especially if he has eyes for one of our players (like Dunne deal last year) so I expect it to move quickly now, hopefully as everyone says in the next couple of days.

I don't agree that Ireland and Milner will be very different. I think both with battle it out for a role in the busy end midfield, Silva imo will be further forward or wider than both. But that said I think there will be a lot of versatility in our midfield- differnt players but hopefully a common theme of hard work, positive play and confidence.

I'm not against Milner, maybe the price is putting people off, but to say Ireland wasn't good that year is utter nonsense. Forget his goals, his assists were enough, plus his general alround play and passing was as good as anyone that year outside top 4.

Man that pass to Robinho against West Brom, his performances against Hull home and away , Everton away, Liverpool and arsenal at home, so many great performances. It was a treat to watch him.

Player movement has been mentioned even at the start of proceedings in May and i haven't heard anything differant for this to change.
To be honest this might be what's held it up for so long as it's always waiting for one to go through to give the green light on the other..................

Yeah but in that one season, Ireland showed much more than Milner has ever showed. I admit that he hasn't had a good year, but you don't go backwards as a player, we just have to encourage Ireland to push on and live up to his potential.

It would be a disaster if we bought Milner and got rid of Ireland imo.

Werder have publicly stated Ozil is available for 20 million euro's, around £17 million. However, Silva is better than Ozil and Ozil plays in Silva's posistion, not Milners. Personally i would increase our offer for milner to £20million plus 3 in add ons, i would also open talks with Everton to sign Arteta so Villa know that we have alternatives. think about it, if we don't budge from £23million Villa will either have to accept or have a player on there books who has publically stated he doesn't want to be with them any more. I hope we have learn't from the Lescott saga.

You're contradicting yourself here. You're saying Ozil plays in Silva's position, and Arteta plays in Milners?! The two most similar players there are Ozil and Arteta, both attacking midfielders who run games and always demand the ball. Silva is more of a modern day winger or plays just off a striker. Ozil is more of a midfielder and to me looks like Lampard but with more pace the way he dominates games. He would be perfect at Barca in a few years to replace Xavi.

Milner is just a waste of time signing for me, 30 is what we'll have to pay and that is just absurd for a hard working average ability player. He's ok, but he's not going to win us the league, Ozil has the potential to be the best midfielder in the world, I know where I'd prefer to spend the money.

I'm not saying that without Tevez there's no work rate at City and without Johnson there's no-one that can put a good ball in. Im using these as examples because this is what the excel at.

Yeah, it would be good to add more of this to the squad but whats the point when we're potentially lacking in other departments? We'll just fail in some games for the exact same reasons we did last season.
