All this talk about Nige v Barry just goes to show that football is all about opinions. Lots of people disagreeing on who is best (although Nige seems to come out on top). It just goes to show you how difficult the managers job is!

maybe on opinion but not in football! :)

Both are good players, Barry can spread the ball abit better and may be better suited in a 4-5-1 next to yaya with Tevez in the "hole" Although, De Jong is just as capable even if his passing is limited he can stop someone in thier tracks better than anybody. Personally, i think De Jong could be an excellent man marker, just stick him on Fabregas, Lampard, Gerrard etc.

Barry was average at best last season, and thats a flattering statement.

He is an extremely overrated footballer and has been ever since capello started picking him for england. Hes too slow and isnt mobile enough, even his overhyped passing ability isnt up to much.

Barry or Nige? Anyone with half a footballing brain knows Nige is better.

Nige cant play hollywood passes, course thats a necessity in his position, because that Mascherano fella sprays the ball round like Xavi right?

The point is though he is no mascherano, check the premier league stats Mascherano makes 2x tackles as him and has the 2nd best passing accuracy in the league

Some very good opinions on Barry, I agree that he is slow, immobile and doesn't really have anything amazing about his game.

We surely had the best out of him.

De Jong has the energy and penetration that is needed in a modern midfield that has 2 wingers/outside forwards.

Energy??? He is slow immobile and rarely if ever starts attacks

Penetration??? not sure what you mean here

From the very little I've seen of De Jong he seems like an all action player. Unlike Mr.Barry.

maybe if you had seen more then you would know you are well of the mark!

Barry is a good passer and a good engine of the team. He isn't a great player but he's a useful one. That said, I'd have De Jong ahead of him in the pecking order all day long.

And what remains to be seen is, could Milner do Barry's job equally well or better?

Squad rotation, De Jong when we're up against a more mobile, passing style team, Barry when we're going to dominate possession anyway against the crapper, long ball teams.
