Milner

Milner is a fantastic player, his energy is incredible but what impressed me most today was his composure in possession and that fact that he always looked to get the ball forward. As soon as he got the ball his head was up and he was looking to drive the team on, he also showed great professionalism in the final 10 minutes keeping possession and running down the clock. I think you could quite easily use Silva as the playmaker in a three man midfield if Milner and De Jong were there to win the ball back for him. Everyone loves Toure and rightly so for the goal in the Semi-Final but I just don't think he contributes as much over 90 minutes as Milner, although quality wise I think Yaya is a class act. Hopefully a bit of weight loss and a good pre-season and we'll see an ever better player.

I think Mancini plans to use Milner as rotation in the central midfield. A good pre-season and i think he will settle in better.

He was good and his workload is fantastic. He wont move like someone suggested. He will come good.

agreed

I have been far from a Milner fan since he joined in summer but I too thought he had fantastic 2nd half. Hardly wasted a pass, tackling good and bossed midfield. Although for me MOM was Lescott.

Haha, I love opinions.

I thought Lescott was the man who kicked off the entire first half near-collapse, first he got the offside trap wrong in every way possible and let the man through one on one with the goalkeeper, in an almost surreal amount of space. Then he made such a balls up of the cross for the goal... first he missed it, then hanballed it, then was going completely the wrong direction. And for godssakes if you are going to use your hand don't pass to the striker. It reminded me of what happened against Wolves, a couple of his fuck ups and a cruise becomes a nail-biter. This time though, he wasn't the only one, and he did turn it around completely in the second half, which is very good to see.
What I tot too. Zab was the MOM for me.

very impressive performance from the lad, great passing and he can shoot from distance, i think its time to rest barry for a couple of matches and give milner a chance and next season we should not spend 30 odd million on someone like schweinstiger who will take another year to settle because milner is our man

Exceptional performance from milner today. Brings more to the table than de jong and was the correct substitute, injury or not

To say Milner "brings more to the table" than De Jong is obsurb mate. Your talking about a specialist DM who is also one of the best in the world at it, as opposed to a utlitity man who looks better in CM than out wide. Dont get me wrong I love what Milner offers and think he should start against Everton. But lets not get carried away.

and we can now also say that NDJ has goals in his game too :D

I think Milner will become one of the "three" next season. He proved today he can play the defensive role and he has played in the forward role in the past. He has struggled a little bit this season because he has generally only been a first choice when the "weakened" team is played, like recently at Liverpool. For some reason the players seem to regard it as a game we're not really interested in if Mancini makes changes. Probably why we're not challenging for the league.

Think many people are saying exactly what I have always thought....he is an invaluable squad member, as defender, midfielder, and attacker. He has the kind of versatility that is admired by Mancini and will be invaluable next season, as City compete on FOUR FRONTS for most of the season.

As I said on another thread, Mancini HAS TO learn how to CORRECTLY ROTATE the squad, so that players learn how to play together IN A SYSTEM and not the crap "where should I play" bulshit that goes on at the end of most games!!!

One of the MAIN reasons City struggle to close out games is the bullshit the coaches pull in the last 20 minutes. We need more "like for like" substitutions, instead of doing things like moving Milner OUT OF THE MIDDLE and over to the left at the end of the game today and ending the game with a COMPLETELY DIFFERENT MIDFIELD than we started with!! Realize we need to do SOME shuffling SOME times, but not with every substitutions! Platt seems to be trying to outwit the other team with every change!?!
