Nathan was a much needed signing, i was never convinced with Benoit.willipp said:pudge said:Tigers fan myself, not really sure what to expect this season.
Great choice, Tigers should win their division again and probably have the best starting pitching in all of baseball so should be a very good year again for Detroit. Hopefully an improved bullpen will taake them that step further.
Smyly's moving up to starter and although he definitley has starting pitching in him i think we'll miss his left arm in the 7/8th. Porcello is far too inconsistent for me, talk was the Nationals wanted Scherzer/Porcello/Fister in that order so dealing Fister made even less sense in my eyes, he will be a big miss.
I was a fan of the Fielder trade as it addressed not only a need at 2nd with Kinsler but allowed the front office to make deals with Scherzer, Jackson and Miggy.
JV, Scherzer and Sanchez is probably as good a 1-2-3 in the majors, then it depends on what Porcello shows up on the day and a bit of patience with Smyly.
Very happy with the agressivness on the bases during spring as that was too glaring a problem for the team under Leyland, no speed or risk.
Still worried about LF, Dirks and Davis will platoon in left for the season but I would have liked Dombrowski to have made a move for an everyday LFer. Plus, Iglesias is out for the season which is a huge blow, and leaves SS undecided, I was praying Peralta would sign a deal and get a full spring in Left under his belt and fill in at short if needed but that wasnt to be.
But as long as Miggy is Miggy we should be in the mix. The Royals were a surprise last year, they're young and improving and Francona has the Indians going in the right direction. It was our dominating of the head to head really that won us the division hopefully we can keep that going strong this year. The AL central might look like a weak division from the outside but its one of the closest and most competitve head to head.
