Didn't the world series get it's name because of sponsorship by a newspaper called 'The World'?

You'll have to excuse my ignorance because even though i've watched it a few times the only thing I can remember is that Babe Ruth was famous.

That's what I was told many moons ago, but it's an urban myth. They really do think it's like the World Cup, so why no teams from Cuba and Japan?
From what I remember there may have been some association at one point, but it was after it was named the World Series.

The reason I get told when I (frequently) mention this thing about the world series, is that the players came from all over the world to compete in baseball....... which means that the Premier League could rightfully change to the World Premier League...

At least then the amount of "city don't play enough English players" stories would be less.

Ahhhhh my team, the Mets. Oh the pain, the pain!!!!! Think they might be improved form last season! Had a nice wager at them winning OVER 73 1/2 games @ -125. Hell, they won 74 last season. I know they wont have Harvey this season but their young pitchers are a year more seasoned and they have some more young pitchers in the pipeline. We should see a couple of them in June. Theres a reason for that but I wont go into details here but its purely economic.

I love opening day. The Phillies were supposed to have a horrible offense and good pitching and so far their pitching has sucked and they've put up 13 runs.

-- Mon Mar 31, 2014 5:04 pm --

It might have something to do with the fact that when the first World Series was played there weren't any other countries playing baseball seriously. And now 111 years later and there still isn't another country with a professional league that even comes close to comparing with MLB.

The Phillies definitely suck this year but the Mutts will always be the Mutts.

I'm a Phillies fan, not a Philly fan. Most of the people at Phillies games are cool but there are the Eagles fans that show up and don't know how to act.

Twins have made their usual auspicious start to the season! 3-6 as it currently stands.

It was the officer's 11 year old daughter the little scrote intentionally vomited on. The p.o.s. is lucky he didn't get tuned up by the guy and surrounding fans before he was hauled away.
