Well it depends a little on whether there are other competitive sports played there, and just the culture of the town. Chicago, e.g. I don’t think has ever drawn well, nor did now defunct Chivas in LA which was I guess supposed to appeal to the Mexican-American population. Atlanta on the other hand drew 70K their first year. One thing in the US is that towns with a lot of in-migration from other states can sometimes create new franchises that transplants will adopt. If you move to Atlanta from New York you aren’t going to change to the Braves form the Yankees, the baseball team you grew up with. But you might adopt Atlanta FC as your “new home town” team to support in soccer (footy).How have some cities been better at getting a decent fan base than others?
