Jenny and Lee, funny them two. That woman off gogglebox and her mate
i would run a mile....2008 i bought a willerby Vogue, £55,000, 20 year lease, site closed from 15th jan to march 1st, did the winter abroad thing Dom Rep, Goa, Malta Andalucia etc, mostly leaving thinking "not coming here again" but each to their own.... went to pay the site fees for the ninth season...and was given an ultimatum by the owners... Part exchange for a new one or move it..Went to a solicitor with the lease and he just shrugged and said "somewhere in that lease will be an obscure clause that gives them the power to evict!! Same story from two more. Minimum 3 grand for crane hire, plus similar for transport plus finding a site suitable and not part of the cartel. Walked away, with nowt, lesson learned. My original plan was to buy a live aboard canal boat, which depreciate very slowly, if at all, but the nearest marina with vacancies was 40 miles from family, expensive and bleak in winter, for medical reasons i had to abandon that idea. Successive governments have allowed this to happen for many years...others have had even worse experiencesa mate has bought one of these on a residential plot after selling his home because of debt problems, he came out of the deal with 100k and paid 42k for this so banked 58k with debts all clear, 2 bedrooms, nice balcony wrapped around it for sitting out in the summer also has a life span from 50-70 years depending on maintenance keep up,council tax band A, seems a far better option than renting a flat on scum street as he wouldnt have got a mortgage because he's 63, not to sure if he has to be out for 7 weeks mid winter, some sites are permanent all year, But no big deal to spend the 7 weeks in Goa i suppose. think its the ideal move, anyone done this or thinking about it
I bought one after my divorce. Nice little family site. Paid 20k for it. We were allowed to stay all year round and to have our 'garden space' as we wished.
12 months later a big multi million company/hedge fund bought it out. It was a nightmare. Start throwing off all of us that had over 8 year old Van's, unless we bought new from them at over a 100k !. We had to sell our vans through them and they took 10%. I had to sell for £1500. You have no rights. The ground rent went through the roof as well. All the garden spaces were ripped out and laid to grass. Anything you wanted to add like a shed or car park had to be put in by them at rip of price. You have to buy the gas/electric through them at rip of prices etc.
Places like park dean, holiday parks etc are just about making money from you.
Personally I would recommend a park bench before buying one.
Yep they are a good idea in principle but you have fuck all rights.
It's a scandal really because they are praying on mostly the old. And you have no rights they have you by the bollocks. They are free to charge what they like for gas/electric/water.
Its something the government should be looking into.
