Always believed the away goals rule should be scrapped if a tie goes to extra time, as the away team has an extra 30 minutes to score a ‘double’ goal. But thats for another time and another thread and hopefully wont be of any relevance to our game

But if that was the case the team playing their home leg second would have the advantage of playing at home for 30+ minutes longer. The current way evens that home advantage out.

I don't believe in away goals or extra time in any competition now given the amount of football being played. Straight to penalties.

While it's not perfect for us it's not biggest problem as well.
City had the choice where to play the home leg and chose Budapest,
procedures have been tested, we've won 2-0, we have a fully fit rotatable squad and get €1.5m minimum on top. Relax.

To go out of the CL on away goals at a neutral stadium would be so "typical City." I remember some years ago at Sunderland when we battered them for 95 minutes and they broke down the field and scored with their first (offside) shot. Most people in our end were going berserk but I turned towards a fan behind (of similar vintage to me) and we both burst out laughing. Losing on away goals in Budapest would beat that moment for "typical City."

even if we scored 1 in that scenario we're out. Given it's City in the CL nothing would surprise me.

Downside is obviously the travelling before a big cup tie but I think the etihad
pitch needs a rest. Against wolves and the rags the pitch looked heavy and I thought the players looked leggy

The CL knock out stages should have been single neutral matches like last season. Only idiots like UEFA would force both clubs to traipse across Europe twice in the middle of a pandemic. They had plenty of chances to sort this in the last few months. Just the usual greed before health attitude of the crooks who are running European football.

completely agree. a single tie on neutral ground was the obvious answer weeks ago but of UEFA then lose some matches on TV
