Whats happened to him ?
I know he would give a clear explanation to the meaning of Atheist morality that would put this to bed
Damocles would simply say that your brother is mentally ill. ;-)
Atheist morality doesn't exist. Atheism doesn't beget morality. It is not determine anything, being an atheist. Do you have a set of morals because you don't believe in unicorns? That's why atheism isn't a religion, or a belief system, it's just the default position of not believing in something without evidence that it exists.
Yes, Mark I fully agree with Skashion. This is one point I might highlight;
"The absurdist is not guided by morality, but rather, by their own integrity. The absurdist is, in fact, amoral (though not necessarily immoral). The Absurdist's view of morality implies an unwavering sense of definite right and wrong at all times, while integrity implies honesty with one's self and consistency in the motivations of one's actions and decisions".
An example of this is our legal system, in the UK we have a common law system so it further emphasises the point, people are treated equally for the same offence (or they ought to be, doesn't always work out that way) this in some way could be secular morality.
The vicar's struggle to find purpose has lead him to the man in the sky, but purpose is a human concept and only a product of our minds; every living thing has a function, not a purpose. It is also quite absurd, to assume you have purpose because you are the product of a deity, who oversees your brief "physical existence". What is God's purpose? If he is a higher being why is he the "park warden" or "Zoo keeper" for lower life forms? Life is the struggle for to find purpose where no inherent purpose exists, but not to struggle is not to live. The vicar has in a sense conceded to the struggle and found God, to belief in God is to reject life.
One final point to the Vicar, you suggest I subconsciously referred to God earlier, perhaps, but perhaps I was just quoting you word for word. Don't use science to justify your ends because it will not work, you know fuck all about psychology so have little right to make that assumption. Also playing Devil's Advocate here, just because God was in my subconscious does n't mean he actually exists outside of our minds, the cultural and evolutionary baggage is still there no matter whether I believe in such superstitious nonsense.
