Morality

I really miss Damocles.

Whats happened to him ?

I know he would give a clear explanation to the meaning of Atheist morality that would put this to bed
Damocles would simply say that your brother is mentally ill. ;-)

Atheist morality doesn't exist. Atheism doesn't beget morality. It is not determine anything, being an atheist. Do you have a set of morals because you don't believe in unicorns? That's why atheism isn't a religion, or a belief system, it's just the default position of not believing in something without evidence that it exists.

This is what is called 'the best guess'.

Chemicals + electricity = forming words in your mind(have they found where the mind is situated yet?).

Yet it is so 'simply' explained...

You dismissed it without watching it?

Put it this way, I asked a question on here. Since you have watched it (haven't you??), just sum it up for me. Is it so hard?

Ta.

That's Bigga for you. He has zero respect for science, which is why I have zero respect for him.

Oh, my achy breaky heart.

You want to be a kn*b with your silly attack, then why should anyone respect you either?
I haven't attacked you. I have said you have zero respect for science. Having seen how often you accuse scientists of making things up or saying stuff like they don't really know or they're just guessing, I have a pretty strong case. As science is the search for truth those who just disregard it are essentially those who aren't bothered about the truth. I don't have time for those who don't care about the truth.

Your question should be, why should I (you) respect you (me)?

Whether you respect me would depend on your own ideals and what's important within them. You should respect me if you find something respectable about me according to your own ideals. You probably don't and I couldn't give the tiniest fuck. There are people who I don't even want them to respect me because it indicates I'm doing something wrong. You'd be one of those people, along with most of the God botherers on here.

He has a point though, you refuse to even consider a view/evidence, that is in conflict with your stand on any subject.
That is what frustrates some of us.
I have read posts on here from people that have met you in "real" life, and all speak highly of you, but on here you can come across as a know it all bore, with an overly elevated sense of yourself and intellect.

The brain, consciousness and morality, all come down to chemicals and electricity.
Watch it from 29 minutes onwards.

Yes, Mark I fully agree with Skashion. This is one point I might highlight;

"The absurdist is not guided by morality, but rather, by their own integrity. The absurdist is, in fact, amoral (though not necessarily immoral). The Absurdist's view of morality implies an unwavering sense of definite right and wrong at all times, while integrity implies honesty with one's self and consistency in the motivations of one's actions and decisions".

An example of this is our legal system, in the UK we have a common law system so it further emphasises the point, people are treated equally for the same offence (or they ought to be, doesn't always work out that way) this in some way could be secular morality.

The vicar's struggle to find purpose has lead him to the man in the sky, but purpose is a human concept and only a product of our minds; every living thing has a function, not a purpose. It is also quite absurd, to assume you have purpose because you are the product of a deity, who oversees your brief "physical existence". What is God's purpose? If he is a higher being why is he the "park warden" or "Zoo keeper" for lower life forms? Life is the struggle for to find purpose where no inherent purpose exists, but not to struggle is not to live. The vicar has in a sense conceded to the struggle and found God, to belief in God is to reject life.

One final point to the Vicar, you suggest I subconsciously referred to God earlier, perhaps, but perhaps I was just quoting you word for word. Don't use science to justify your ends because it will not work, you know fuck all about psychology so have little right to make that assumption. Also playing Devil's Advocate here, just because God was in my subconscious does n't mean he actually exists outside of our minds, the cultural and evolutionary baggage is still there no matter whether I believe in such superstitious nonsense.

And that's the difference between you and I. I haven't dismissed anything. I gather information. It really is that simple. I take everything into account. What I don't do is think that one set of beliefs must dismiss the other as you search for a 'truth'.

And you DID attack me unprovoked. It's in your wording and delivery. Don't pretend otherwise, it just makes you look pathetic as you try and angle out of it.

That's Bigga for you. He has zero respect for science, which is why I have zero respect for him
So this isn't an unprovoked attack?? Correct me if I am wrong, but science is merely a learning tool and you pit that against a Human Being? And yet you fashion yourself in some place where I must gain YOUR respect from that position??

Whatever, man. LOL!

And pominoz, I shall look it over from the time frame you suggest, as I get time.
